Extending cat naps
« on: October 12, 2015, 03:32:31 am »
Hi there, I have been trying hard to extend my 7week olds day time naps. At the moment he religiously wakes up at 30 mins on the dot.  I am following easy but with these short naps it's a struggle to push past 2 hours per cycle.

I am having reasonable success with the initial settling using swaddle, white noise, shushing and a hand on chest but seem unable to resettle when he wakes to extend the nap. I try more shush in and hand on chest. He doesn't like lying on his side so bum patting is harder.  Any tips? Room is dim but not blackout. His night sleeping is going well with only one wake up to feed. He will occasionally sleep longer than 30 mind if in pram or on a long car ride.
Thanks!

Hiya!

He's usually about between an hour to an hour 15mins. I try to put him to bed as soon as I see tired signs, usually yawning or grizzling.

It sounds like he is just a wee bit overtired, maybe watch the clock instead of cues for a couple of days and try to get him down a wee bit sooner.
