10mth old waking 1.5-2 hourly at night. Why?
« on: October 15, 2015, 12:09:43 pm »
My LO has moved to one nap for the last few days.  She wakes two hourly when she has two naps or one.  The only difference is, when she has one nap, at the beginning of the night she'll sleep for about four hours without waking, but with two naps she'll wake 2hrly all night long.

The thing I don't understand is today she slept for 2.5hrs in the day, nice deep sleep.  She generally self settles at bed time, sometimes she will feed to sleep if really tired.  When she wakes during the night, I only feed every four hours, other than that when she needs help, I'll lay her back down and say 'sleep time' and leave her to it.  She'll just suck her thumb and try and get back to sleep.  Sometimes she'll do this a few times before finally going back to sleep, but once night she has a block where she is awake 1-1.5hrs.

This sleeplessness reminds me of when my babies are struggling with food intolerances, but the thing is, if food is the culprit it will usually affect their day sleep too.  This is not the case for this LO.  She is napping beautifully in the day.  I've also tried giving Paracetmol with no difference.

Does anyone have any clue what's going on?

EASY
6.30/7 wake and feed
11.30 nap
2:15 wake
5.30 feed
6pm Bedtime
10pm wake and feed, falls back to sleep while feeding.
12pm wake. Restless for about 1hr or so
3am wake. Feed to sleep
5.00 wake - resettle without feed
5.45 - feed back to sleep
6.45 wake

With two naps
6.45 wake
10.30-12.30 sleep
4pm nap
5.00/30 wake
7.30 bed
10.00/10.30 wake feed
12pm wake for an hour or so but more upset if she's had two sleeps during the day
4am wake, feed
5.30ish wake and feed back to sleep
6.30 wake

Any idea what's happening? I'm lost.

Oh hon, I'm so sorry you got completely missed.  There's no excuse for that!
From what I can see, I think your LO is in the early stages of getting ready for the 2-1 transition.  I'm not suggesting you drop the second nap yet but what I would suggest is that you cap each nap at an hour, or give your LO 1.5 hr nap in the morning and cap the afternoon nap at 45 mins.  I think that would help ensure she's resting throughout the day but not stealing from her night sleep, which is what appears to be happening.
