19 m NOT Napping at daycare
« on: October 16, 2015, 08:17:37 am »
Hello
I don't know what to do. My boy is 19 months next week, started attending daycare on the 1st of september, from 9 am till 4:30 pm
He was ok napping for the first month, they put them to sleep at 1pm till 3 pm.
His routine used to be:
Wu around 7:30
Nap 1-3 ( in bed 1 asleep by 1:15-1:30) wu at 3 always have to wake him
Bed 8:15 asleep 8:30

Since 2 weeks ago he is refusing to Nap at daycare, so when I pick him up he is tired.
I am doing early bedtime but dont really know what time to do..
One day was 7, and slept until 7 next day, but now has started waking early too.
The other day was asleep by 6:30 and woke 6:30
Last night was asleep by 7:30 but woke up at 6 this morning..
Even if I put him early in bed sometimes it is taking him to long to fall  asleep, i suppose OT

No teeth at the moment , had a cold 2 weeks ago but now seems better.
Any advice?

Hmm that is a tough one as there is not much you can do for him at daycare. Do they sleep all in one area for naps? Maybe he is distracted and cannot fall asleep? If it were me I would try an even earlier bedtime on the no nap days as that is a long day. I know it seems like it wouldn't work but a lot of lo's do well with a super early bedtime.

Hi there my lo is just 17 months and was a really rubbish sleeper at daycare!!  Do they follow your routine at daycare?  Will they attempt to resettle or re-try at a later time?

My lo was only in daycare 2 days per week and on day 1 I did bedtime 15 mins early and day 2 30 mins early.  This was regardless of how long she slept as it was always less than at home and she was pretty tired from the stimulation and activity. The first day following I would usually get between 90-120 minutes sleep and I would still do 15 minutes ebt that night just to catch up.

Well , this week he hasn't Napped at all. Last night was in bed st 6:30, asleep by 6:45 and slept until 6:30 this morning, only a  brief NW at 9:15 and resettled on his own.

Today(saturday) I put him in his crib at 12:30 and asleep by 12:45.

I am sure he is distracted, because they all sleep in the same room, they have a little matress on the floor for each one. They told me he keeps getting up and wanting to go out, trying to open the door.. They finally have to take him out because if not he will wake up the rest of the children. So they just give him quite time with a book.
Their routine is exactly the same as we have at Home, nap from 1-3 although some times he wouldnt sleep until 1:15, 1:30 at home so maybe he is untired at 1 really and doesn't want to sleep!
They told me he was nearly falling asleep sitting down but when they tried to lie him down he openned eyes and wouldnt go back down.

I will try even earlier bedtime next time he doen't nap. I was just afrais he would have even earlier wake ups.. Do you think he can sleep more than 12 h if early bedtime?
I just hope he finally gets use to daycare and sleeps!
Thank you very much for your help

I found because I wasn't doing a super ebt that my lo tacked on and her wake time was generally the same.

Can they not give him a book on the mattress?  You could maybe ask them to hold off 15 minutes before taking him into the room and see if that helps.

Good luck!

That would be my option - can you ask them for postponing his nap by 15min? I guess it's just a phase and he will be able to be integrated with a group but for now maybe it would help.

Hello!
Just an update.,after 1 month of No naps from monday to Friday, he suddenly started napping again and all went back  to normal, and started napping again. Not as long as he would nap at home ( between 1,5-2 hours) but  at least he gets 1 hour.
If he has a short nap y put hom now in bed 30 min before his usual Bedtime.
He will be 22 months in a week. Thanks for all your suggestions.
