« on: October 16, 2015, 13:59:29 pm »
Hello!

I need help please! My son(26mnths) was a textbook baby before going to daycare a month ago. They undid all my work!! Hes now waking 4-530 am everyday. Use to be 7?! Idk what to do. I try putting him to bed earlier, 30min, but he doesnt usually sleep early.

Easy
7-12
12-2nap
Bed 645/7

Now its 530am-12
1230-2 nap
Bed 630/645.

So it looks like prior to daycare he got 12 hr nights & 2 hr naps for 14 hr in 24 and now he is doing 11 & 1.5 for a total of 12.5? Do you think he may need his nap capped a bit? Or that he is ot and needs catching up, in which case can daycare give him his nap a bit earlier?

My original thought was OT.. which seemed to do the trick the first few weeks as I would put him to bed earlier around 630 latest. He was clearly and is still rubbing his eyes by 6 the latest.. issue is, hes up 5am ready for the day.. he may pass out 630am for 45min after realizing no ones coming into his room. He has NEVER done this before. The 4-5am wakeups are shocking considering hes been high sleep needs.

Being that he has been high sleep needs I wonder if bringing the nap earlier temporarily would work and then if he can catch up work at shifting the whole routine slowly back to where it used to be. How often is he at daycare?

Even if he wakes at 5 am? That is a really long stretch where the first routine you posted he was doing 5 hrs morning A time.

I know! In fact, sometimes hes so overtired at daycare from 5am wakeup that he actually doesnt settle until 1230-1! But hes always had a horrible time with being overtired.

Poor little guy, daycare is a tough adjustment! What is the earliest you have tried to get him down for a nap? I imagine he is overstimulated too from daycare as well.

Would he nap any earlier on daycare days maybe? Might be a case of riding it out until he is used to daycare as sucky as that is!

No they wont put him down earlier because of all the children. My challenge now is trying to figure out when to put him to bed if he only naps say a hour instead of his usual 2+. The awake times would be great if others would offer their experience?

At that age my older two (more average/high sleep needs) were doing about 5 hours A time pre and post nap (DD1 did shorter naps, 1.5/2 hrs I think, DD2 2+ hrs). For whatever reason they were always happiest to have the A times balanced and the nap exactly mid day. DD3 does not nap at all, even if she has a rough night sleep. How is he going to bed on home days when he has had a longer nap?

Thanks! :) at home he naps great 2hrs and generally is asleep between 7-730pm. Yesterday he didnt nap at daycare so he went to bed at 630 and woke up surprisingly at 7am! Though sometimes it would be 5am.
