Link between peanut and egg allergy?
« on: October 18, 2015, 19:29:57 pm »
Has anyone heard of this? Olly has never eaten peanut and so has never been tested. This time when we went in they tested him as they now think that there is a link between egg allergy with atopic symptoms and peanut allergy.

His egg measured 2mm and his peanut test was 9mm!

So we are now waiting for a egg challenge in hospital but he is now definitely off peanut!

I have never heard that but I do know that the whole trifecta (ezcema, allergies, asthma) predisposes kids to each part. The fact that he already has allergies would have more to do with it than the specific allergy in my mind? Would they do a peanut challenge in hospital too?

They aren't going to do a peanut challenge. He will be retested next yer. I wonder if it is still a theory at this stage and until they decide what their approach will be we have been told to just avoid them.  ??? That is the impression they gave anyway

I know my niece has peanut allergy but seems like she's fine with eggs....I've never heard any mention of eggs anyway. (They live thousands of miles away so I don't see her eat lunch!)

Good luck with the egg trial.

Thanks Anne - we tried him with a bit of baked egg yesterday and he was OK. It is such a HUGE relief!
