EASY advice for HSN 5.5 month old
« on: November 12, 2015, 18:05:46 pm »
DD2 is 5.5 months and she's a sleepyhead! She loves her sleep. She does at least 13h nights (with 2-3 NF's so really between 11 and 12h of sleep), and if I let her she naps for 3h.

I've been following EAES pattern all day long but her Wake up times are erratic and I think it's time for us to move to a more predictable Schedule. I'm just not sure how to approach it with a HSN baby. Should I aim for one super long nap and then a CN? Or Wake her after 1h30. With an 11h day and 2h45 of A time, it is even hard to squeeze in the 2 naps that she would like.

Here is Tuesday:

WU 7:30
E 7:50
E 9:50
S 10:50-12:45
E 12:45
E 3:00
S 3:30-4:20 (I woke her and she was then cranky until BT)
E 4:30
E 7:00
S 7:30
NF 10:40
NF 3:10
NF 6:40

and yesterday:

WU 9:00
E 10:00
S 11:20-12:20 (I did a stroller nap and woke up bc I knew otherwise I wouldn't be able to fit 2 naps)
E 1:15
S 2:30-4:00 (DS woke her up by being Noisy she would've slept longer and she was cranky until BT)
E 4:05
E 6:30
S 7
NF 10:05
NW 12:20-2:00
NF 4:45
WU 8:00

today so far:
E 8:05
E 10:20
S 10:45-? (it's not 1:05 and she is still sleeping).

So given she gets cranky on shorter naps, should I aim for a short AM nap and then long PM (as long as she'd like), or would she get used to 2 x 1.5h naps?

It was around that age that I put DS on this routine:
WU: 7
S: 930-11/1115
S: 1:30-3 (or whenever he woke - often closer to 4)
BT: 630/7

It worked quite well. I'm pretty terrible at waking babies so he did often sleep later in the am. In that case, I usually did a stroller or sling nap knowing he would usually wake on his own around 45m-1h (aiming for an end time of 11). Those days looked like:
WU: 8
S: 10/1015-11
S: 130-3/4
BT: 630/7

You may go for 2 longer naps of 1.5h but I would probably go for shorter and longer one if it's me, as Lily suggests.

Great I will try that routine it looks great. It also has the added benefit of allowing to get errands etc done in the morning while she naps! :)

Yesterday I ended up waking her at 1:45 after 3h nap, and she didn't want to go down after for a CN so we did EBT at 6 but it was already too late so she woke and played a bit during the night but it was not too bad.

I woke her at 8AM this morning and got her to nap at 10:30 we'll see how that goes. I plan to Wake her at 12. I'm assuming it would be best for a few days to Wake her and then we can wing it a bit more once she's used to the new routine?

So, I think she is OT. Today's S:

WU 8:00 (I woke her)
S 10:25-11:20
S 1:55-3:40
S 6:50

I wanted to do a super EBT but couldn't get to it as I had to pick up DD1 from a friend's house. She did look tired at the end of the day but she was still happy. She generally manages OT quite well but it's the first time we have these Úpisodes of chatting at night.

So last night she was up and chatting at least twice during the night and now, 1:15 after BT she is chatting again.

I have to say that she has started to crawl in the past 2-3 days and she is supposed to start a WW like now. So it's hard to say for sure if she is OT, or if this is just developmental.

Should I stick with the set naps tomorrow or try to let her sleep as much as she wants so that she recuperates from any OT?

We often did that too or just went for a walk to the park!

If you aren't in a rush to get her on a routine, I would just follow cues tomorrow and let her catch up a bit. If she does handle OT well you are probably ok to keep trying for a few more days and just try for EBT when possible (I know it's tough with 2 others in the mix). I found that chatting was almost always ww related.
