16weeks and not one long nap so far!
« on: November 09, 2015, 17:05:52 pm »
Hi Ladies

I do think we need help, Maks is 16 weeks and to this day he hasnt had a nap longer than 35 minutes himself, sometimes they are 20mins  sometimes 30, any suggestions are welcome.

Yesterday and today

6.35wu
8.35nap-9.05/9.50
11-11.20
1.10nap-3.05
5nap-5.35
7.20BT

6.53wu
9.07nap-9.27/10.30
12.25nap-1.55
3.55nap-4.15/4.45

All of his naps end up in the ergo carrier with a dummy. I always put him to bed without one, he is a very happy baby and could be up for hours especially in the mornings.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but if he very rarely takes a long nap, he may just be a short napper. The good news is that naps usually start lengthening around 6 months. If you've already spent a lot of time adjusting A times, I would just figure out a routine that works with the short naps.

Aaaaaa, we have played around with A times and he needs a long A time even after a short nap, otherwise he just wakes fully after 30 mins and its impossible to resettle him.

This was Today

7.45
9.45nap-11.05
1.10nap-2.45
4.55nap-5.15
7.05BT

Do u think its worth extendong for another 10 mins to see if he will sleep longer himself?

Happy, he calmly opens his eyes, looks around yawns and starts chewing on his hands. As i have extended his A time to 2 hours he sleeps well in the ergo without waking.

That's great. Are you happy to have him keep napping in the ergo?

Ideally i need him to have his first nap in his cotbed, so i can sort out my 2 year old and his breaky. Otherwise its just unfair on him. Im happy to have an odd nap in the ergo thats not a problem, although je is nearly 8kilos in weight....

If he only short naps in his cot, we can figure out a routine to work around that if it would help.

He has never had a long nap on his own, what i do now is settle hin in his cot and when he wakes put him in his ergo, it is far from ideal, but if i just leave him to have short naps evenings are just not going to work, he is a little grumpy anyway in the evenings. I dont know if i should play a bit more with A times

It's really up to you. There can be a regression at this age anyway (and it's just the start of the age where they start to get naps sorted out) so it may or may not help. If you are ok with what you are doing, keep at it. If not, we can help you play with a new routine.

Well we decided to play with A times, if i pit him in ergo with a dummy he can dall asleep after 1.40A but will only sleep for 20 mins or so and stir constantly. So i took a leap today and extended his A time more. We were at 2.15 mins and ocassionally even in ergo he would stir at 30 mins and i would have to start walking again to resettle him. Sooooo this is today so far.....

Wu 7.50
10.20nap (without dummy, in his cot, although with some crying) and its 11am and he is still asleep! This is the longest he has ever slept on his own. He keeps stirring and on a cpuple of ocassions he even opened his eyes, but went back to sleep....
It seems crazy he is only 18 weeks and he can stay up for so long between sleeps! In sure he will wake soon, but in 18 weeks this is the longest he has slept

Yay for a good nap! 2.5 hours is just a bit above average for 18 weeks. If it's working, stick with it.

It was only 50 minutes and he wouldbt resettle in ergo, but im still reeling woth excitement!
He is rather grumpy after about 2 hours so i have to wntertain him for 30 minutes, but i will stick to it and see if he starts sleeping

That's a good plan. I would try it for 3 days or so to see if it works. His other A times may be shorter - it's normal for LOs to have some longer and some shorter A times.
