How to drop a NF 20 weeks
« on: November 18, 2015, 23:00:09 pm »
From about 12 weeks my LO was sleeping through the night. Bedtime would be 6.30-7, dream feed between 10-11 and she would wake at 6.30. At 16 weeks she went through a WW and the sleep regression and started to wake again for a NF (usually around 4ish). She seems to be coming out of the WW now. How do I stop the NF?
She is bottle fed, on 4 hour routine. Her activity time is 2.05 minutes.
The last few nights we have tried a few different things. Here's how they went:
(The first one has been the case for about 3 weeks now)
6.30pm Sleep
10.30pm DF
4am NF
7.15am WU

6.30pm Sleep
No DF
12.30am NF
6.30am WU

6.30pm Sleep
No DF
4.30 NF
7.15am WU

6.45pm Sleep
10.45pm DF
3.30am NF
7.15am WU

So even though she took a full bottle at the DF, she still woke hungry in the night. I know she can do a long stretch overnight so am not sure why when we DF her she also needs another feed at night. Should I drop it all together?

Difficult one hun as there's a huge growth spurt at 4mo. NF's tend to continue to a little while yet. Is she draining all her bottles during the day? I might suggest adding an oz or two in there if that's the case.

The DF doesn't work for everyone. It does seem like yours sleeps better without it doesn't it? If I were you, yes I would drop it altogether but just feed her when she wakes like you have been doing xx

Thanks Kelly - just a side qn: my daughter is at 2 hrs 5 mins for activity time. Is this long enough or should I try to make it longer?

That's about right hun. I'd keep an eye out for any short naps, they'll have to happen for 2-3 days continually.

Here's a great link to keep handy. They do like to increase their A time pretty rapidly from now on xx
