2-1 transition nightmare for almost 16 month old
« on: November 19, 2015, 16:49:08 pm »
We recently went away on a longgg holiday to see family in Turkey for 3.5 weeks. Well we've been back for a month now and my DD has not slept through ever since we got back! While we were there we were both sleeping in the same bed and think she got really used to that. Before the holiday she was in a cot next to my bed.

The other thing is when i got back i found out i am pregnant so felt under enormous pressure to move DD into her own room so i decided after a week of being home that it was time to move her into the other room whilst doing gradual withdrawal. So far it has gone quite well and I have my chair about a metre away from the door.

So the situation is this, she will not take a 2nd nap anymore so I have given up trying and going for a set nap and bedtime come hell or high water. Aiming for N1 11.30 with 5.30 BT. The problem is this 1 nap is just not lengthening - we get 1 hour max and everywhere I read people say their babies sleep for 2 hours min! So we've been on this fixed schedule for a week now and I still feel like I'm going wrong somewhere but don't know what to change. Here are the last few days:

WU 5.30  went back to sleep 5.45 - 6.30
N1 11.45 - 12.30
BT 5.30

NW 9 9.30 10.30

WU 5.30 went back to sleep until 6.30
N1 11.40 - 12.20
BT 5.30

NW 7.30 awake until 8.50!

WU 5.30 slept again until 5.50
N1 11.30 - 12.30
BT 5.30 tried for an earlier timehopefullyed but 30 mins

NW 8 3.30 - 4.30

WU 5.30
N1 11.50 - 12.50
BT 5.40

NW 7.30 3.50 4.05 5.15

and today's so far...

WU 5.40
N1 11.40 - 12.30
BT 5.30 hopefully

So ladies I am at the end of my tether...does anyone have any suggestions? The other thing worth mentioning is I am sleeping in her room on a mattress on the floor, could this be making things worse? I am just so tired from pregnancy and the thought of getting up for all these night wakings is putting me off!

Oh Mads that sounds rough!  Hope you are managing some rest!

Are you able to resettle your lo when she wakes after an hour?  I found that the hour mark was also an issue for my lo so sat beside the cot at this time and when she started to stir I gently stroked her bum.  It took about 2 days but she lengthened to 90 mins and so on.  Don't get to hung up on the "all babies sleep 2 hours"  ;D I wish!!!

Oh thanks for acknowledging how tough it is even just to see you write that helps!

I do try to extend the nap every time for a maximum of 30 mins, (iv had enough by then) but not by doing anything comforting I am still doing my gradual withdrawal thing and sitting in my chair but she gets sooo mad and starts throwing all her cot teddies at my head! Do you think I should do something like you did with the stroking? I just don't want that to interfere with my gradual withdrawal progress IYKWIM.

Thank you so much for your suggestion  :)
