How do you manage naps on the go?
« on: December 08, 2015, 20:31:12 pm »
Ok song had a child that would only nap on the go, car or pram.
Now I have had some success with napping at home, naps on the go are failing. We were out all day today and she averaged a couple of half hour naps then the rest were 10-15 mins cat naps all over the place. She's fed well and been pleasant otherwise. Was a little difficult at bedtime though.
Any suggestion or sometime just go with it? Don't want to become a hermit  :'(

My DD didn't nap well on the go and I went for the hermit option - not healthy at all! Sometimes you just have to roll with it and figure out strategies to recover from a day of short naps. Some moms find an early BT works or staying in the next day to catch up.

With my first child I was a bit of a hermit but with my second I just can't be.  Basically, I'm willing to mess with the morning nap but not the afternoon nap.  So I'll take the boys out in the morning and pop DS2 into the Ergo when it's time for his nap but I make sure to always be home for lunch and the afternoon naps.  DS2 doesn't usually nap for longer than 30 minutes when he naps on the go but he makes it up on the days when DS1 is in day care.

Just persist! And if possible go out consistently for one nap so that it becomes part of the routine.

With DS1 we were always out by 8.30am to do the horses and soon DS2 will be getting used to the same rhythm. DS1 slept in the car seat or in the buggy while I mucked out. This time I have the option of a sling also.

We still, as a general rule, like to have our mornings out and about and our afternoons at home. Just what works for us as a family.

Thanks ladies,
She slept as normal last night which is good cos I was worried she'd be ot. I guess she is just a nosey baby and that's how they learn. My usual aim is to have at least one good nap at home of I can, but if you're out for the day there isn't much you can do is there.
I don't want to become a hermit that's for sure, which could be very easy to do in this horrible weather!!
I just find it crazy that we've gone from only being able to nap on the go, to not being able to lol.
Babies are a mystery lol x

She was a pain napping at home yesterday too. Today I have removed the sleepyhead snuggle pod out of her cot and she has been down for 2 1/2 hours lol. I stupidly disturbed her at 5am, she whinged for half an hour then settled til 7, unfortunately I was awake then  :'(
Oh well, note to self, don't disturb the little person!!

That's frustrating when they're sleeping in and you're awake!
