The mess started at 10mo, now 19mo and still EW. Help please!
« on: December 23, 2015, 13:14:54 pm »
Hi!  :)

Ds started sleeping really bad at 10mo. With other babywhisperers he is now STTN but he still EW's every morning. He wakes up screaming between 4.30-5.30. I think he's OT but I can't get him to sleep more so it seems that I can't help him.

He takes one nap during the day. If I'm lucky he sleeps 3h.If not, he sleeps 1,5h-2h.
BT at 7.00-7.30

Any suggestions?

What time is naptime? Does nap length make any difference in wake up? ie does a longer nap result in earlier morning wake?

Totally off topic - my grandma's name was Maud! I have never seen anyone spell it that way her, love it!

Naptime is around 12.00. When he takes a good/long nap, the night is goinig to be okay. If it's to short, he NW.

Haha really? It is a very common name here in NL. Used to be in the top 10.

Not a common name here at all, and usually with an "e" on the end.

Hmmm that is a puzzle! I was thinking he migt be ut but if he sleeps better at night after a longer nap day then that is probably not the case. What is the sleeping environment like? White noise? Dark? Any house sounds at that time that could be disturbing him?

He sleeps in the dark, for the first 20m white noise (harp music). He sleeps on the 2nd floor so the noise from downstairs can't disturb him.

Good to know! So in regards to the nap - any rhyme or reason the when he will take a decent nap and then do a good night (oh just a thought - good nap = good night, perhaps the next day he is ut for the nap and leads to bad night??).

Could be.
Last night was ok, he woke up at 5.30 though... (bf in bed untill 6, then I kicked dh out of bed to take him downstars ;) )
Nap today was 'only' 2h wo I'm curious how upcoming night is going to be like...

But, if that's the case (what you're saying) then I can never figure out what to do right? Will he be switching from OT -> UT?
How long does a 20mo should sleep in total of 24h?

I have another early bird, I remember those 5am starts!

My guy needs little sleep and at age 2 was having approx 11hrs total (nap and night) in every 24. I got annoyed enough to plot all his sleep on a graph at work and take an average! That's when I figured he'd be better off without the nap.

I would guess hsn too...mine were all different at that age - DD1 got about 13/14 hrs in 24, DD2 15/16 and DD3 only 11/12 (she is very lsn, stopped napping at 22 months!).

So on the good nights how long does he sleep? Is it without nw's? What length of nap gets the good night?

On the good nights he sleeps around 11h-11,5h. (7pm-6.30am give or take ;) )
He actually always wakes up every night but when he has had a good nap that day, he will fall asleep again by himself.

I can't really tell how long the nap has to be for him to sttn. It looks like he has to wake up by himself. When he wakes up from a dirty diaper or I have to wake him for some reason, the night is going to be bad.
I think he has to nap at least 2h but rather 3h.

Yesterday he slept 3h but dh had to wake him up. Last night he started screaming at 4 en stayed restless untill 6.30. Dh lay beside him, stroking and ssss'ing. Ugh.

You know just coming from out in left field...my DD2 slept a lot at that age (3 hr naps, 13 hr nights),and it turned out she had sleep apnea from enlarged tonsils and adenoids (she snored incredibly loudly). So although she slept a lot it was not quality sleep at all. Have you ever considered anything medical?

Oh and one other question - are the nw's predictable at all that wake to sleep miht be worth a try??

Thanks. I'm pretty sure he is fine medical wise. There is absolutly not any sign that there's something wrong with him.

No, nw's aren't pretictable. Last two nights he did quite fine actually. One night without nw and woke up chatting at 6.45, the other night he did wake up but self sooth and slept untill 7. YAY!

At least he slept as long as he needed, 2-3h.
Last two nights we're bad again but he totally pooped all over himself in the morning. I think that the poop caused the bad night ;)
