Late BT
« on: January 01, 2016, 23:49:17 pm »
Hi,

Life is busy in our household and sometimes a bit sleepless. Im on maternity leave, so we are a bit out of routine with the eldest, i let him sleep in etc, so i can get some sleep, especially if the youngest is sleeping in. Oskar is 2.3 years old and rarely sleeps through the night, and in pretty sure its routine related.

At the moment day looks likes
8 wu
1.30-3 nap
9.30BT

Last night he woke around 5am first tine and then i took him inti my ned and he slept until 9!
We were having a debate with OH about Bt and both sort of agree that 9.30 is a bit late, but he will not settle before that, he needs 6.5 A time.
Just wondering if there is anything we can do, try his nap 30 mins earlier? Cut down his nap?

It sounds like he may be ready to drop the nap, or at least cap it.  I would suggest you treat his nap as a cat nap.  Give him 45 mins and then get him up and going.  If that helps, you'll likely know within a week.  I'm sure he's loving the extra snuggles but it would be better long-term to treat the cause.

I would also say possibly time to ditch the nap! Today he woke at 9am, id have a no nap day and put to bed more like 7pm. And see how you get on...

Dd has recently fully dropped the nap after having one every other day then one a week. Now that its gone she is having 13hr nights. Its a scary thought but its worth a try.

I was worried you might say this, he isnt quite ready to drop the nap, ocassionally he had a sleepless day and the nights are horrific i wouldnt with it upon anyone, he is up every hpur screaming if we miss the nap. Capping it is probably a good way to gauge. I also have a 5 months old who doesnt sleep well durin the day, im not sure im ready for the nap dropping myself.....
So you would say
8wu
1.30-2.30
9BT

Wondering if he would settle earlier on a shorter nap......

This wouldnt be too bad, as when i go back to work we would need to shoft the day to start st 7, so BT would be a bit earlier too

Yes you can definitely try and and see how you get on! You could always gradually make that nap shorter & bring bt earlier, if it works x

By the time we finally cut out the nap entirely, we were down to 20 minutes.

I think you have a good plan.  Seeing as you're going to try a CN if you could move bed time up to 8pm it might help avoid any meltdowns around BT.

Out and about today, so only had 40 minutes if that in the car, still settled at 9.30, will see how the night goes. I will need to start waking him, as sometimes he does sleep in and then the nap is later and later in the day.
20mins nap? Goodness i fear that day, when he sleeps he does like his sleep.....

Oskar had a terrible night he cried out pretty much every hour but not waking until 4am, then OH got  him into bed with little Maks not sleeping great for the past cpuple of days that was so draining.
He was up at 8, so will go for 1.30 nap unless he is very tired
