Life after breastfeeding???
« on: January 12, 2016, 00:01:46 am »
Hi all, was wondering if anyone can offer up advice on how to wean your 1 year old off the boob! I currently nurse him in his nursery and this is how he goes to bed - no idea how to switch this since I want to stop BF soon. He will be a year 1/30. I am fine with going longer to do things right so any advice is very much appreciated! Also curious about the transition to milk? Need advice on how to do this smoothly and how much milk a 1 year old should be drinking. Thank you so much!!  :P

I started offering milk in a cup - first at snack times and then later at bedtime while we read stories. DS decided by himself that he preferred the cup and I went with that.

No idea on the amount, sorry! Will google tell you the recs for where you are?

The recs are different in different places I think...here it is 2 cups of milk a day I think (so around 16 oz??).  Does he feed to sleep at naptime too?

I did a "don't offer, don't refuse" approach when DS was almost 1. I.e. I'd offer milk in a cup, one feed at a time (same as MJ&N snack times first, then bedtime, then morning feed was last to go) but if he asked for BF, still give it.  But DS wasn't feeding to sleep and was kind of losing interest himself anyway.
