Can I do EASY without catnap?
« on: January 22, 2016, 12:18:22 pm »
Wondering if I can skip the catnap with my 5month old?
This was yesterday's schedule:
WU/E 7am
S 9:30-10:15 (45min)
E 11am
S 1:30-3 (had to re-settle half way through)
E 3
E 6
Asleep 6:30
DF 9:30

So, I know that around 5ish, I should have put her down for an other nap, but I couldn't seem to get her to settle. The closer it got to 6, I just said: "Forget it! Lets eat and then you go down for the night."
I can't seem to get catnaps to work too well in general. I would rather have bedtime be 6/6:3ish than later because of a catnap.

In general that's but have in mind:
- she may become overtired as her last A even at 6:30 is 3:30 and it's about a standard nap not a 2.5h mammoth one, so if that suits you maybe even think of 6pm BT for the time being
- first A is rather short so thus short 45min nap and second A seems to be long after 45min nap in the morning so that's why slightly OT nap; have you considered lengthening morning A slightly to make it 2:45 rather and shorten slightly second A if first nap is still 45 min so you could get a longer nap?

Oh! I didn't even think that the first A time could be too short. I had just recently bumped up her A time to 2.5hrs.

And if the first nap is still short, I should shorten her next A time? I always wonder what I should do about that. Should I maintain A time as scheduled or shorten it if she's had a particularly short nap 30-45min? And should I then, regardless of S time, stick to 4hr E schedule?

At this age, E time especially if you are breastfeeding can be a bit flexible. You will be introducing solids soon, so everthing will change:).

Yes, usually when you have a routine with a short nap like 30-45min, it's worth to have a shorter A afterwards. I wouldn't recommend it but her nap seems to be an OT one if she is waking in between. It's possible she is UT also, but after 3.5h A at that ahe I would suspect rather OT.
