22 month old early waking
« on: February 06, 2016, 11:59:02 am »
Hi.

Our 22 month old who has never been the best sleeper and had a previous phase of EW is returning to it

We actually shifted bed time forward by 30 min and nap too to make it better which worked for a while. I also stayed cutting back his nap. I am a but unsure if I need to restrict nap further or the opposite?

Typical day

Wakes between 5.20 and 6.30
Nap 12.30-2.15 then wake if left would sleep 2-2.5hrs
BT 7 sleep usually by 7.30 occasionally later as charts for ages in his cot.

Previously we had to stay on room with him whilst falling sleep but have done gradual withdrawal and now able to sit outside his room and occasionally say ssh or sleepytime.

We are also thinking of moving to a bed. He isn't keen but feels like he willk be asked to get out very soon

Thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Is he on the lower end for sleep needs? If so I wonder if capping the nap a bit more will help the ew. Personally I would leave the bed out of the mix until he either learns to climb out or really starts insisting on a bed. My 2.5 year old is still in a crib and I hope to keep her there for ages yet!

Yes i have been blessed with two boys who are low sleep needs!

Apart from being ill he has slept 12 less then 5 times!!

Actually this week has been a bit better. Weekend was early wake ups 5.20, 5.50 but last three days were 6.20, 6.30, 6.15.

Could still be worth calling nap further. We are away next week and he always naps less away so I will see.

With his big brother we had to move from choir at 20 months when he pulled himself up and out and it was an easy transition. Dues feel like it will be harder in part due to a different personality and in part as more aware. We have a holiday in may that week be tricky if he is still in coit so think we will try on our return in a couple of weeks.

If u do cap further by how much? Go to 90 min rather then 105?

Thanks

Yes I would gor for 90 and see how he does.  I was only blessed (lol) with one lsn child - and it sort of works as she is my third so can keep up with her much older siblings! Hope you have a great holiday xx
