6 week old - constantly wakes from nap.

Hi all,

Can anyone help? My 6 week old goes down to nap well, but wakes continuously throughout (every 20 minutes). Does anyone know why? Or how to combat this? I always leave home to see if he can do it on his own, but he doesn't resettle. Please can anyone help?!

Hi Hon! What does it mean that you leave home? At that age they usually need help with resettling, 6 weeks is really a tiny baby. Do you swaddle and use white noise? Does the baby has a dummy? What is the time you put him down after a previous nap?
The last thing to ask would be if he has any medical problems as reflux?

My DS is 6 weeks too and I can honestly say he's not really gone down for a nap he wakes up instantly so he's mostly in the sling/pram or held right now.
6 weeks is so tiny I'd enjoy a cuddle for part of the nap to extend it.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry it should read I leave him not home (that would be a tad drastic 😊)  We do swaddle, with white noise (although this has a timer) and a dummy. He is usually awake (including feed) for an hour/ an hour and a half.  He can be a little fussy post feed,  but no signs of reflux as of yet

Thanks Zoe, I do really miss nap cuddles - that was the way with our first. However with a toddler in tow, I'm having to try and put baby down more than my first. I do worry that I'm missing the best bit.

I have a toddler too, use the sling quite a bit to extend naps

Hi, just picked up on the timer on your white noise - its best to have white noise that keeps going the whole nap - that way when LO stirs, he knows nothing's changed from when he fell asleep and he is safe to go back to sleep
