10 month naps
« on: March 17, 2016, 11:24:34 am »
Hello, I posted about a month ago when DS was 9 months, he is now 10 months and i'm wondering what I'm working towards in respect to nap lengths, he usually gets 2 hours in naps a day. One 30min one and one up to an hour and 30. Nights 11 hours.  If morning nap long has short aft nap and if morn nap short has longer aft one.  All naps in cot and self settles with no props apart from very dark room and constant white noise as have a noisy 2.75 yr old DD. approx. easy.

W: 6:15-6:45, left in room till 7 if not too noisy.
E:7:15 70z milk, 8:15 bit of porridge, toast and water
S:10 for 30mins - 1hr 30
E: 12 dinner of solids, sandwiches or pasta etc. with water.  1:30 60z milk
S: between 2-3 depending on morn nap so if long morn nap down at 3ish if short nap down at 2 (naps add up to usually 2hrs a day)
E: 4:15 tea of solids and water, 6:15/30 10 oz milk
S: 7:15ish

Does this look ok or is 2hrs not enough, he wakes at night but always self settles. Approx awake time 3-3.75 hours.

That all looks just fine to me!  As you move towards the 2-1 transition, we recommend choosing one nap as the short and one as the long and stick to it so you get continuity but that's up to you.

Thanks, bit hard to set as would prefer short morn longer aft but depends as if doesn't poo inbetween naps will wake from aft one after 30mins with poo! so that would be only two 30min naps! I don't wake him but tends to wake from one of them at 30mins. I have just felt in mouth this morn and noticed first bottom tooth ridge has cut through gum (wondered why messy nappies and gone off meals/milk!). Do you think I should wake from morning nap then every day if so what would our easy look like. I've still been keeping him up 3-3.5hrs after 30min nap in morn so goes down round 2 in case only has 30-60mins for aft otherwise too long before bedtime.  That's why leave him if has a longer morn nap then put him down round 3 then shorter time till bed!

If you're unsure of how the afternoon nap will go, go ahead and make the morning nap the longer one.  That's what I did with my first boy.  I let him have a good long 2hr nap in the morning and then keep him up for 4 hrs and give him a CN in the afternoon of 45 mins.
If you were to do set naps with a short morning nap your EASY might look something like this:

7am- WU
9:30am - Nap #1
10:15am - WU
1:00pm - Nap #2
3:30pmish - WU
6:45pm - BT

With my first son, our EASY looked like this (I think):

7am - WU
10:30am - Nap #1
12:30pm - WU (or roughly that time)
3:30pm - Nap #2
4:15pm - WU
7pm - BT

This one really only works, in my opinion if you have just the one child.  This schedule with two kids who still nap would be a total pain the patoot for me!

My 2.75 DD has stopped napping as for weeks every day would just sing loudly for an hour and a half with no nap and disturbed DS so gave up, she has some quiet time with TV as if leave in room wakes DS or is when DS is awake then don't get out!

So should I cap one of the naps to under an hour?

Thank you

;D  Sounds like my DS1!  He still naps for a good long bunch but he sings all day, every day.  I would recommend you cap one nap at 45mins, yes.
