13 month nap transition and night wakings
« on: April 14, 2016, 14:06:33 pm »
My 13m DD at the weekend refused her morning nap and had 1 nap with 4.5 hour wake time.  I am now finding that 2 naps are too many and 1 nap is not enough resulting in multiple night wakings even with an early bedtime (last night was hourly, and I gave her painkillers in case it was teeth) the other day I capped her morning nap at 15 minutes and even after that she wouldn't go down for her nap until 4 hours later.  The trouble is if we go anywhere in the car or pram around her usual morning nap time there is nothing i can do to stop her falling asleep.  I am also finding her 1 nap days have varying sleep times - after 4.5 hour wake time she has slept 1hr 20, 2hr 30 and anything in between.  Should I just keep persevering with 1 nap days until she gets used to it?

Can you post how your day looks?

When we went to 1 nap we often had to pop a 20 min CN in to keep OT at bay x

Hi, below was her day yesterday:
Wake: 7am
Nap: 11:45 (woke at 2:45pm)
Bed: between 7.30pm - 8.45pm

We did some errands at around 4.30/5and she looked like she was going to drop off in the car but didn't. Then when we got home she perked up.

On days we are at home she rubs her eyes at around 5pm but I struggle to get her to go down and worry she will end up going to bed really late.

She is slightly constipated at the moment and wakes briefly in the night a few times and falls asleep quickly when I pick her up. However she also just wakes in the mighty and can be awake for over an hour, this has been going on for a few weeks now without the additional wake ups.

Today I put her down for her nap after 4.5 hour wake time and she has woken up after 1hr 45. Her naps seem to vary in length is his a sign she might not be ready for 1 nap?

She slept quite well. I think her night waking are related to her tummy, last night she only slept for 8 hours and today has had 1 hr 30 minute nap. I managed to squeeze a cat nap in. hopefully she wont go to bed too late.

I am never quite sure how much A time I should give her when she has short naps etc. She has always been very hard to read with sleep cues and I have always gone by the clock but when things go haywire I am stumped as to when to try and put her down.

I wasn't very good at guessing A times after a CN, think I used to just add an hour onto when I'd normally offer a nap.

She was up every hour last night!! I just don't understand what is going on. At about 11 she signed that her teeth were hurting and I gave her paracetamol (I can't feel anything coming through) she was waking roughly every hour after that but would fall back to sleep quickly with a quick cuddle and then being placed back down.

It could be developmental with hourly waking too, is she verging on a new skill?

she is trying to walk, she doesn't seem to get getting any closer to walking though. Can developmental really cause hourly waking??  :(

I think sometimes we never quite know what causes wakings but we've had lots of NW with new skills and teeth or discomfort. Is she crying or chatting etc at NW?

Most of the time she is crying.  Only a handful of occasions has she woken up standing and chatting. I think I am one of those lucky mum's whose little one is going through nap transition, teething and developmental leap at the same time! :(
Looks like I'm just going to have to ride it out.

Ooh bless you it's hard. Crying could be teeth or overtired, just try and stick with your normal routine as much as possible and use CN to keep OT away.

I used ibuprofen in the night for teeth as lasts longer and better. Could be some molars moving underneath.

Thanks, she does seem to struggle with her teeth when they move under the gums and it can last for ages! I think I can spot a canine getting ready to poke through, been rubbing teething gel on her gums and seems to help settle her. Also found out she is gluten and dairy intolerant which explains the constipation and waking with tummy ache. Just got to ride it all out. Poor thing
Thank you so much for your support
