11 month old suddenly crying at naps
« on: April 17, 2016, 09:43:03 am »
Hello, my just turned 11 month old is suddenly crying at nap time, morning one not so bad, minimal crying and asleep within 10mins.  Afternoon crying lots, short or no nap even if a short morning one.

Always struggled with 30 mins naps so one usually is that long, other wakes then but goes back.

He learned to crawl just over a week ago and has in the last two weeks cut his first teetch, 6! 4 at top and 2 at bottom!

last few days:

14/04
W:6:45,
E: 7:15 8oz milk and toast and water an hour later
S: 10:05-10:35 30mins (poo when got him up)
E: 11:45 dinner or solids, 7oz milk ~2pm
S: 2:20-3:35 1hr 15mins
E: 4:30 solids
play and bath
E: 6:15 9oz milk
S: 7pm

15/04
W:6:00,
E: 7:15 8oz milk and toast and water an hour later
S: 9:50-10:40 50mins (poo when got him up)
E: 11:45 dinner or solids, 7oz milk ~2pm
S: 2:20-2:45 20mins
E: 4:30 solids
play and bath
E: 6:15 9oz milk
S: 6:50pm

16/04
W:5:30, left till 5:55 then when in, changed nappy as poo and gave 5oz milk, sang song and put back in bed
S: 7-8 1hr
E: 8:15 5oz milk and toast and water an hour later
S: 10:35-11:40 1hr 5mins
E: 12 dinner or solids, 7oz milk ~2pm
S: put down at 3 but just cried, went in twice, gave teething powders, second time had pooed, nappy and left, still cried, no sleep, up and took in car for 30mins, still didn't sleep, also had 3yr old though playing on phone.
E: 4:30 solids
play and bath
E: 6:15 9oz milk
S: 6:45pm , woke crying 7:10, and another few times although not as bad before midnight then 2am.

Self settles on own with comforter in pitch black room with constant white noise.

Waking again with poo which hasn't done for a few weeks!  Also waking crying.  Have been giving pain relief before naps but not noticed a difference!

Help please.

Teething, especially when it happens all at once, can really mess up a child's sleep!  Medicating for pain can really help.  However, I suspect your LO may need a bit of an A time push.  Some babies are ready to make the 2-1 transition before a year and it may be that's she's in that group.  I would suggest you push her to 3.5 in the morning, as she seems to sleep well with that time, noting your afternoon EASY.  Give it a few days to take affect and see how that suits her.

I have been medicating but not seen a difference.  Has gone back to 2 naps last few days as, was up at 4am both days, once sat in cot and other poo which had leaked.  Eventually went back and had to wake in morn but then had two naps.

Should I cap one nap and if I do cap the morn one at 30mins roughly what length activity time should there be in between naps.

e.g.

W: 6:30
S: 10-10:30

when would next nap occur?

My LO2 is still on two naps at 13 months.  His sleep schedule is as follows:

WU: 6:30am
N1: 9:30am
WU: 10:15am
N2: 1:00pm
WU: 3:00/3:30pm
BT: 6:45pm

There's some variation in the morning nap just depending on how tired he seems but the afternoon nap always happens at the same time.

that looks perfect, however, he never does a 2hr nap!  Could I be keeping him up too long between naps, although sometimes only has two short ones so don't risk putting down earlier in aft in case does have another short one then its such a long time till bedtime.  He has also the last two mornings woke at 4am ish, can see eyes shut but moaning and flailing round, messing with lovey and coughing takes a while till goes back.  Yesterday had pooed this morn went to check after listening to him muttering for an hour but no poo! Does go back then I have to wake in morn otherwise would really mess day up and I don't want him to continue being up at 4 for 1.5hrs as I struggle to go back to sleep so a loooong day!
