Vitamin supplements
« on: April 17, 2016, 09:46:41 am »
I understand that vitamin supplements are recommended for BF babies from 6mo.  I'm taking a BF vitamin supplement & I asked my HV whether I still needed to give my baby extra vitamins in addition to me taking them. She was very  unsure and said she thought not.  But she's not a great HV, & seems a bit clueless and if she's wrong I don't want DD to be missing out if she needs supplements.

Does anyone else know?

Hi, the NHS recommends that babies do get supplements from 6 months. Here you go;

"Growing children, especially those who don't eat a varied diet, sometimes don't get enough vitamins A and C. It's also difficult to get enough vitamin D through food alone.
This is why the Department of Health recommends that all children from six months to five years old are given supplements, in the form of vitamin drops, which contain vitamins A, C and D."

Obviously check the age and dose in the bottle (I'm sure you know that of course!). I think the syrup starts from 1yo.

Ah yes, the one we have is suitable from 6mo, it's the liquid not the syrup.
