4 month old easy
« on: April 18, 2016, 12:22:10 pm »
DD2 almost 4 months old. I think I need some help here. I don't seem to see any tiring signs, sometimes yawn as soon as 1 hour after waking up. Also moving to 3,5 EASY impossible as naps too short. We are struggling with last nap at the moment as LO just does not want to fall asleep.
Another question is: she sleeps through from 11 till 7 almost every night so how can we move to 3,5 easy and then 4h easy with less feeds, she is EBF.
7:20 awake eat
8:50 sleep
9:35 awake
10:30 feed
11:55 asleep ( after 30 min in the car )
12:40 awake
14:45 asleep
15:20 awake
17:20 asleep after 30 min in the pram
17:45 awake
18:30 BT
19.15 finally asleep, colic
10:30 Df

I would start by giving those A times a push.  If she's almost 4 months her A times should be starting to near 2hrs so I would try to move to 1.45hr for now and hold for a few days and see what happens.  With a push in A times her naps will hopefully extend.  I think by the end of the day she's just OT from the short naps.  Once A times are extended if she still wakes early I would try to resettle if you can.

We had to drop DD 1 at occassional care at 9 and then pick her up at 11:30 thats's why too short A. We have tried 1.45 and she slept 45 min so I tried to push 1:50 but she is really difficult to settle so it is never predictable what time she will fall aslesp. Last time I aimed for 1.50 I went to her bedroom at 1:40 and she was asleep at 2:10, shush patting seem to annoy her. Sometimes I am so desperate to make her sleep as she is so late that I have to rock her to sleep.

45min naps are usually caused by 2 things - being UT, or being unable to transition sleep cycles.  Has she ever done long naps?  My DD still does loads of 45min naps even when I think her A times are right just because she needs help getting through that transition.

To me this suggests she's UT - she's difficult to settle because she's not tired enough yet, and if she fell asleep at 2.10 that might be closer to what she needs for A time.  Is she crying when you are trying to settle her or just kind of faffing about and not sleeping?

No, she is crying, I would leave her if she was just fuffing around. Her easy today:
A 7.20
S 9:20
A 10.00
S 12:05
A 12:45

Let's not go to what happened later as it resulted in her sleeping only for another 10 and 30 min so BT was at 6, but she kept crying till 7, she get's very gassy everyday so it takes her 1 h to completely fall asleep. Shall I start pushing her A more.

4 months is a super trick age, I found I really had to play around with A times a lot and I think we've only just figured it out now after 3ish weeks of trial and error.  My DD is just over 4 months and 2hrs exactly is now working for us.  If she's really upset when you are trying to settle her and it seems like she's OT maybe scale back to 1.50hr.

Do you ever try to reset her if she wakes early? I know you have another LO so that might be possible.  My DD takes loads of short naps still but I can usually resettle her back down after about 10mins and I just try to set my DS up with an activity or show to watch.  Also, if she takes a short nap try to scale the next A time back a bit, maybe by 15 mins so she doesn't get OT.

Hang in there!! I know this 4 month fun is hard!

How long should I be trying to resettle her for? I get headache from all this shushing. I have never managed to resettle DD1. If she is sleeping for only 40-45 min shouldn't I be pushing to maybe 2.05? Feeding is crazy too as When I do 2 h A I tend to run out of time for last catnap and have to pish early BT.

You know your LO best, if you think she is UT then give her A time another push.  Just know that sometimes they will sleep 45mins because they need help transitioning sleep cycles.

I usually resettle by just patting my DD, I don't shhh at all.  I kind of roll her on her side and pat her back/upper shoulder until she nods back off.  I only spend about 10-15mins doing this and if she isn't back asleep then I abandon and just reduce the next A time slightly.

Ok, we have another problem, we are now sleeping 30-35 min, I have tried to increase A times to 2h and she was sleeping 45 min, now the same amount of time gives her only 30 min to nap. OT, UT? I make sure that she gets her wind down time, but she seems to get vety upset when we go to her room, it is worse when she sees bed and hets very restless being held. I troed not to jold for too long but it des not make any difference. She always cries in bed. Ill post my EASY at the end of the day.

How old is she now hun? Is she 4 months yet?  As a general rule 30min naps are OT and 45mun naps are UT.  I'm am wondering if perhaps that her A time isn't necessarily wrong but that she's just a bit OT overall yk?  I think what I would do is if she has a 30min nap for her first nap then scale back the next A time a bit more.  I usually reduce by 15mins, sometimes a tad more if she's really showing sleep cues.
