Need help again.... 6.5 month old
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:34:34 am »
Hi again. So this time its night wakings. Im sure i am meant to post on another board but i think it is her naps which are the problem. Let me show you a typical EASY
WU- 6.30/7.00
E- 7.15 bottle
E- BLW
A- 2.5hrs (from wake up)
S- 9.00 ( sleep 30-70 mins)
E- 11.15 bottle
A- 2.5 hrs (from wake up)
S- 12.15 ( sleep 30-90 mins)
E- 15.15 bottle
A - 2.5 hrs
S - 16.15 ( 30 mins )
A - 17.30 BLW
E - 19.15
S - 19.45
And this is where things get tricky. For all naps and sleep she goes down really well with no or little involvement from me. But when she goes down at night she will wake maybe 5-9 times before 12pm. Sometimes is just for her dummy but most of the time i have to lift her out and resettle her.
Then at around 3 or 4 am she wakes crying until i go into room. As soon as i go in she starts kicking her arms and legs so i put her dummy in and leave the room. She will cry as soon as i leave and stop once i re enter. She will be awake then for a full hour. If i lift her out she will fall straight asleep on me but once i put her back down she wakes and crys. I cant settle her in the cot.
Usually after 1 hour of this i give up amd bring her into my bed and she will sleep solid until morning.

When she wakes from a nap i can never get her to go back to sleep as it is a screaming match so i have stopped trying. But when i put her down she settles all by herself.

I have no idea why she wakes so much at night. I can't tell if its ot or ut and how to sort it out.

Thanks in advance for looking at this.

Hi there!  It sounds like your LO is under tired, which is why she can't stay asleep.  I can offer a couple of suggestions.  Firstly, I would suggest you try for another A time push, just 15 minutes more could make an enormous difference.  Secondly, I think it's time to drop that 3rd nap, which is likely contributing to all the night wakings.  Most babies her age are awake for 2hrs and 45mins to 3hrs and 15mins, with 2 naps a day.  HTH!

Have dropped to 2 naps but her last A time is between 4.5-5.5 hrs long. Is this ok? She is sleeping well at night but gets a bit grizzly an hour before betime. Her total sleep time in 24 hrs is about 12.5 hrs. Is this ok?

Is she still going to bed at 7:45pm?  If she's waking at 6:30 or 7am, I would aim to have her asleep for 6:30/6:45.  That will likely help.

Having her last bottle at 7 now, so sleeping for 7.15. Its only been 2 days so will see how things pan out. Should she be getting more sleep in a 24 hr period though?

Most babies can only handle a 12 hour day at best, which is why I suggested the earlier bedtime.  I've attached a link for day time/night time averages below.
