When can a toddler manage wellies?
« on: April 28, 2016, 20:30:54 pm »
So, my DS2 is 16 months, and has been walking for a month. He walks exclusively now, and for long periods outside etc. He basically runs TBH  :o ::).

When will be manage some wellies? I am so keen to get him some as it is easier when they want to be in and out of the house on wet days, but I know it can take a bit before they can manage them.

He is just a size 4.

Oh my word, is he?!!!!! Already?!!!!!!! I'm in shock!

I think my guys could both manage wellies from about 18 mos and definitely by 2 yo, no problems.  If he's running already, he might well be able for them.  Watch out in the sales, OH picked up a pair in M&S for 99p last summer!

Cool!!  Over here you can get rain boots very young already.  I can't remember when DS first wore his but I was just amazed how he could run in them and never ever slipped.

I'd have thought no harm in trying - better than soaked feet ;) but if he tries to run in them...more tripping potential :-\ See what he makes of them in the shop - some LOs act like their feet are glued to the floor when they first put them on, I remember DS eventually lifting his legs up high like his feet had suddenly grown enormous ;D but on the other hand DD hadn't been walking as long when she first tried them, but didn't seem bothered by them at all.

Both of mine had wellies right from the start. The hardest part was finding them small enough, Enfys wasn't even a 3!!! I believe next do wellies down to size 3.

Haha lovely!  If he runs in them, then they are perfect!  ;). Have fun shopping.

Hope you find some and hope he likes them Liz :)

Mine has still never worn wellies and he's 5yo! ha!
He totally refused wellies so we have had snow boots, duck boots kind of things instead, more supportive and comfortable and still relatively easy to get on and off. The last pair were £5 on sale in Aldi so it doesn't always mean big expense.

Ha. Yes, I've often had snow boots for the big kids. DS1 now has waterproof hiking type boots instead. Lots of options I guess.

We had waterproof trousers with elasticated bits that hooked under the feet, I used to put them over the Welles which helped keep them on :)
