Success with PU/PD before 4 months?
« on: July 06, 2016, 00:21:27 am »
I hate Shhh Pat like pretty much nothing else.

Has anyone had any success with early use of PU/PD?  I'm talking at 3 months, before Tracey's recommended 4 months.

Sorry not used it myself so early, but hopefully this will bump your post a bit.  I believe Tracy did say it could be used at 3 months in certain situations but I'd have to dig out the reference.  I do think having the correct expectations is necessary though - shh pat and PUPD are not totally separate concepts.  At the earlier ages of PUPD you would still be aiming to soothe with shh pat in the crib in between picking up.  What is it about shh pat you particularly dislike?  I don't think PUPD is a particularly quick or easy alternative really  :-\.

Thanks jessmum46

Sorry it has taken me a few days to reply, very busy weekend.

My thought on shh pat is twofold... one I feel ridiculous and two I have tried it with limited success.

With my first baby PU/PD seemed to work a treat.  It did take a couple of weeks but my use of it was to break a night habit feed.  She was 4-5 months old then though.

Thanks heaps.

You don't have to do shh pat the way exactly described in the book if it makes you feel silly :D  I used to sit beside my DS and just rest a hand on his tummy and stroke his hair - he didn't like the patting and wasn't overly keen on the shh.  I did try a white noise app a couple of times though which stops you having to sound like a kettle whistling ::) :D
