15 week old dream feed?
« on: July 11, 2016, 20:04:28 pm »
My 15 week old currently wakes once over night for a feed. He is EBF.
His last feed is between 2100-2130 and he usually wakes at about 0400 (has woken earlier at 0200ish) has a feed then back to sleep until sometime between 0800 and 0900.

He is starting to get tired and go to sleep at about 1900-1930 so I thought I would put him to bed at that time. He is still asleep when I go to bed at about 2200 and my question is should I wake him or give him a dream feed? I changed his nappy last night at about 2130 and gave him a feed which I guess would count as a dream feed (he stirred but didn't fully wake) but he still woke at 0400ish for his usual feed, would you bother with the dream feed? or just put him to bed at 1900 and let him sleep until he normally wakes for his early hours feed?

Does this bedtime sound appropriate for his age? and his sleeping?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there :)

Could you post your EASY in its right format and I could help answer your BT question. It sounds pretty accurate but just so I can get a better visual!

IRT the DF, I believe Tracy suggested once they are established on solids then attempt weaning little at a time by reducing the amount he is on the breast. Many just let their babies sleep through and it just goes away or use W2S too.

I honestly don't have much personal experience w the DF other than it threw us off every single Time i tried to implement it. But honestly at 15 weeks for a EBF baby, 2 feeds is very normal and especially since there is a growth spurt coming around for you soon at the 4mth age. Regression also hits so things might get a bit off anyway IRT nights.

However, if you'd like, you can get better eyes on the BF page. we can move the topic over if you'd like. More experience there on night feeds for EBF :)

Long time since I've BTDT with DF etc, but spent the day with a friend who had her 4th  who is 13 weeks yesterday. I think if you are getting a good sleep from roughly 9pm- 4am (7hours) - although if he'll go from 7pm ish to 4am without a feed then  I'd say I wouldn't mess with it. If you are struggling with the 4am waking (& that's the only one) I'd kind of suggest maybe making your own bedtime a bit earlier, rather than disrupt a 7+  hour length of sleep.
IMHO it sounds like he's doing really well.

Thank you both for your reply. *FPT23* feel free to move my post to the forum you think most appropriate, I wasn't sure where it belonged when I posted it!
I've been trying to make an EAS schedule for my lo but he has to keep coming along to things, errands, play groups etc that it's variable but I'll keep trying.
It seems to work well with him having a feed at 2100/2130 and then waking at 0400 for a feed and straight back to sleep until 0800/0900 so I'll keep it like that for now as that is what he is naturally doing. Thanks *katet* for your advice too, yes it's probably not wise to mess with things too much if he can do a 7 hours stretch, it feels like he's always feeding in the day time so I guess he just fills himself up then!
