16 week old increased night wakings
« on: July 21, 2016, 09:21:50 am »
Hello, my 16 week old is EBF. He has been sleeping with only one wake up for many weeks.
Over the last 3 nights he has woken for two feeds over night and the first feed hours earlier than normal. He will drink both boobs of milk and falls back instantly to sleep (he falls back to sleep after the first boob but I offer the second as-well and he will drink it, not sure if I should if he's asleep after first?)

My question is do you think this is because of the heat we have had over the last few days in the UK? is there a growth spurt now? or is it sleep regression, or something else? he is currently sleeping in a sleepyhead which I think might be getting a bit too small for him as he likes to stretch out so I will look at cots this weekend.

He takes good naps in the day and I have done my best to ensure he does not feed to sleep for naps and rather he goes to sleep after A (although sometimes he does feed to sleep and I try and put him down slightly awake so he will go off by himself).

I also have a toddler so my babies routine is determined by her to some extent e.g. going to baby clubs etc. but I did try to track his EAS when we were at home together whilst toddler was in nursery for the morning. It's something like this;

Awake and feed around 0730
A time and during this another feed (he's always hungry in the morning and can feed a few times)
S:0815/30- for approx 1.5hours
Feed
A time
S: 1250 for approx 1.5 hours
Feed and A time
Cat nap of about 40/50mins 1800/20
Relaxing A time and feed
Bed 2000ish

He was then waking between 0300-0400 for a feed and then straight back to sleep until 0730ish

But last 3 days has woken between 0130/0200 for a feed and again at 0400 and then up at 0630ish

What do you think?

There is a pretty big growth spurt around 4 months so most likely that is the cause (though the heat would def be a factor too!). We had a similar uptick in feeds at night at that age.

search for posts about the 4 mo sleep regression  :-\ we are in the middle of it too. There is also a big developmental "leap" ( google "Wonder weeks") around that time. Stay strong!
