Unsure of bedtime
« on: July 30, 2016, 22:49:19 pm »
My 2 week olds feedings usually end with a bottle due around 7ish and I will feed him in a dark room and swaddle him and put in his bassinet for the night. But I'm always unsure of what bedtime should be if the bottle is due around 5/6 or 8/9. Tonight he ate 3 and 6 but it's kind of early for "bedtime" especially because he spent most of the afternoon napping. Any suggestions?

At two weeks old I was still going with the flow and DD3 didn't go to bed until I did. So I'd keep her downstairs. So in your case Id have made bed 9pm as youre right 6pm is very early.

What about a day like gods when he's eating more frequent but hasn't napped all afternoon ?! He took an 1.5 nap from 1045-1215 and ate at 1230 and 330 but hasn't napped since then. If I can get him to nap now around 430 do I wand him after 2 hours to feed and then put him back to bed for the night? Being that 930 would be the next feed?

I'd have let him nap and did bedtime after 9.30 feed.  At this stage it's more about the sequence of EAS than timings xx

I did let him sleep from 430-630 and woke him for his next feed which was 630 but  he could barely stay awake And only took 2 ounces.  So I did put him in his bassinet for bed around seven   And he woke again to eat at 9:30  but once we got to 330 4 o'clock in the morning he was sort of more awake than sleeping so I got him up at six.  I guess this was due to the no nap early bedtime. Part of the fun of being a newborn :) tiday he's been crying with gas so hope to get some good naps.

3 week old has been waking every 3 hours to feed usually 11 (4 hours from last feeding) then 2 then 5. Sometimes he goes back to sleep after the 5am feeding but sometimes he stays awake and then calls back to sleep around 730 and sometimes he falls right back to sleep and wakes or I wake him by 7/730. Any way to get this to be more consistent or am I asking too much from a 3 week old ;) lol

To be it honestly sounds perfectly reasonable for a 3 week old.

Im still having trouble with the naps though. He doesn't really take them lol. Or he'll take a bunch of 15-30 min naps. Or he will nap late like5/6 pm.

Just reading back through. im wondering why you are waking him? In the mornings or to try and get a set bedtime?? I think for such a teeny baby that is likely causing OT. At that age I only woke if she'd gone a half hour over a feed.

Have you a sling? If you're only getting short naps it could be he needs some more reassurance and comfort and hed likely sleep better in a sling.

Is there any reflux issues?   I know it's very hard to tell in such a new baby.

Hugs xx

I'm not waking him just meant we are starting the day with that first feed by u swaddling lights on etc meaning it's time to start the day. Just trying to make I'm aware of when it's nighttime and when it's day. Sorry I didn't make that clear. As far as bedtime I'm always unsure when he wants to nap so late in the day. Like if it's 6pm and he's napping and due to eat at 8 at which time I would swaddle him and put him to bed for the night. But being that he's napping so late and close to bedtime will that cause him to not make it until morning to "wake up" for the day. Does that make sense? I do think now that maybe it is a bit of reflux going to call dr.

Yeah if it's reflux that could be certainly causing some issues.

How'd today go lovely?

Today was better !  I sat him on his Boppy pillow which is a bit of an incline so he's not slumped over and it seemed to help his feeding plus I went back to the smaller nipple until I can find a new bottle I also use the gas drops which seem to help and he napped which was great
