20mth old fights nap
« on: July 25, 2016, 11:40:49 am »
Hi
Not sure what to do with my toddler. She does have low sleep needs and dropped to one nap at 10mths.  Her nights are going well, but her day nap, she is taking FOREVER to settle. I usually put her to bed about 1.30pm.  She used to then sleep until 3.30/4 at the latest. Recently she isn't falling asleep till at least 2.30pm (even after having an active morning).  But, I then have to wake her at 4 to ensure she doesn't affect her nights. She never wakes from that nap on her own, I'm always waking her at 4. My husband forgot to wake her the other day. She slept till 5, then went to bed at 8.30pm fine.

Her routine at the moment is like this:
7.30 - wake
1.30 - put to bed but not asleep till about 2.30pm
4pm - woken by me
7/7.30 - bed

Should I be just putting her down for nap later? Do I still cap the nap? Later bedtime?
I really need help. I have a baby due in a few weeks.

Ugh. Shes still grizzling in her cot at 2.45pm.  She went swimming this morning and was tired!

I put her down at 2pm today. She's still awake at 3.
Yesterday she didn't nap, then slept from 7pm-7am. What to do?
Is this part of the 18mth regression or is she dropping her day nap already?

Hi there, I'd probably put down a bit later and give her a 13 hour day, a lot of LO at this age have s longer day.

If you want to cap the nap the keep BT the same then put down later and wake after say 1.5 hours.

I know some may be nap dropping st this age but it could also be something developmental going on so is prob try holding onto nap for a while, especially with a baby on the way x

Just keep trying! Mine went through a similar thing (taking an hour to get to sleep - sometimes I would give up...) at about 21 months. (2nd was 2 months old at the time). I made his nap time 1hr later and it has settled well now (a month later.) His routine was a lot earlier so I wouldn't know about napping so close to BT, thankfully other more experienced mums do!)

Thank you. It seemed to sort itself out, but gas gone backwards again, taking over an hour at night to settle, even with me in the room (in case it us separation anxiety). Although, I gave paracetamol and about 10 minutes later she is setting...coincidence? I don't know.
