Hi there
Sorry to hear about your wisdom tooth extraction, you must be shattered, I was out of action a few days when I had mine done. Hope you are feeling better soon (lots of meds helped me!) xx
Honestly I would not count 5.15am as an EW. He has slept 11 hrs 15 over night which is only 15 mins shorter than what we previously established is his overnight sleep length of 11hr 30. I really wouldn't put anything much on a LO sleeping 15 mins less over night (and actually looking through the times, your LO has slept *more* overnight rather than less)
A few points to consider:
- due to unavoidable circumstances (your wisdom tooth extraction) you were tired and so had LO in bed with you until 6.35am, this made his day shorter by 35 mins. It's worth expecting the routine to go off track when you have any kind of change to it so for that day and the following couple I'd expect to be pushing back to the planned routine.
- you put him down to bed at 6pm making his day another 30 mins shorter than the planned routine. Overall then it looks like just over 1hr shorter on his day. This means expecting him to have a shorter day and longer night. EBT might be needed due to the second nap being short (40 min CN due to being woken by sibling). When you give EBT I'd just expect an earlier WU and start the next day as planned. Anything longer than that is a bonus.
- both days he nodded back off and woke at 6.35 and 6am which honestly I would take as a huge bonus. This means he extended his night sleep beyond what we would expect from a LO who generally does 11hr 30 up to and beyond 12hr.
- LOs might need a longer night and might be able to do a longer night when teething...but equally they might also sleep less or find it harder to go to sleep or wake numerous times with pain. Teething does cause sleep disturbance and we have to kind of wing it a bit to get through those times and return to the routine as soon as possible to keep on track.
- Some LOs will do a longer night when naps have been shorter in the day to catch up but we must also keep in mind that if we continue to have longer nights then LO may not sleep so well in the day as a consequence.
- Giving or allowing a longer night can quickly lead to UT naps leading to shorter naps and shorter day and in effect the short naps then result in needing EBT which then expects a long night or leads to earlier wake up. UT can also end up causing OT.
Here's the routine:
WU 6.00 or earlier
nap 9.15 - 10.45
nap 2 - 3.30
BT 6.30pm
Are you still working to this routine?
If it is not working for you LO might need an A time increase due to age.
