3.5 uear old total sleep
« on: September 29, 2016, 13:42:07 pm »
Hello,

just wondered around how much total sleep at night should a 3.5 year old get.  She has stopped napping, however, has 1.5hr downtime with telly after dinner whilst 16month old sleeps.

My husband thinks I make her go to bed to early.  She is asleep from around 7:30pm and wakes between 6:30 and 7:15 usually.

Sounds great.

Mine had a solid 12hrs at that age (from about 2.5yo to 4.5yo ish he is 5.5yo now and gets about 11hrs)

I think that sounds perfect what she is doing! Obviously if you pushed bedtime later she more than likely wake later but if you are happy woth that wake up time id stick to that.

Dd is the same age and sleeps from 7pm until about 6.45/7am. She gets around 12 hours sleep still.

Id only push bedtime later if she is struggling to get to sleep (she isnt tired) or if you want to shift the whole bedtime and wake up

Sounds very similar to my 3.5 yo...he doesn't nap unless absolutely exhausted but also has about 1.5hrs down time after lunch.

He goes to bed at 7.15pm,  asleep by 7.30 and usually sleeps through until 6.30.

OK, good to hear, thankyou.

She goes to sleep quickly so don't want to push later but does sometimes shout in the night and fights bedtime every night wanting extra cuddles.  She may sleep longer if little DS didn't wake her in morn!

That sounds a bit contradictory if she goes to sleep quickly but also fights BT every night. To me they are opposites.

Do you mean that once she actually stops asking for cuddles & messing she falls asleep quickly?
Thats how i read it 😊

yes, after asking for cuddles etc. and once I leave the room she goes to sleep very quickly whereas when napping she used to chat to teddy for a good half hour before sleep!

Ah, ok, I understand :)

Have you tried doing a slightly longer wind down so that the extra cuddle time is built in to the routine?
When my DS hits the half birthday his sleep always goes off a bit, it often shows as call backs at BT and I tend to find it easier if I plan for that extra time and just stay with him longer rather than coming downstairs to be called back again. Usually it's a few weeks of some additional help/cuddles/head stroking at BT and then we go back to normal.
Maybe it's just the half birthday? Perhaps?
