4.6 year old coming into our bed Update HELP!
« on: October 02, 2016, 23:18:49 pm »
She's started school a few weeks now but keeps coming into our bed around 6am and is disrupting everyone's sleep.

My 3 year old usually comes in an hour or so after her so again wakes us all up.

Any ideas how to stop this?

I'd try a gro-clock first.   But if that doesn't work or doesn't sit right, I am a big believer of removing ones self from the struggle whenever possible. IIWM I'd tell my LO she is free to come in, but she may not wake anyone. I would set her up a place to lie down on the floor (air mattress, sleeping bag) and tell her she is welcome, as long as she is silent.

But I say that not knowing the backstory.  Is she looking to begin her day at 6am? Or is she just looking for comfort? Perhaps a trip to the potty and then back to bed? Is she able/wanting to go back to sleep and just wants to be close?

Thanks for that. Some good suggestions. No she's just looking for comfort. She does however take a little while to get back to sleep.

Then I think that let her know you're there for her, but need to remain asleep in order to be the best Mommy you can. So yes, by all means, come in......but this will work best if you remain silent and allow us all to continue resting. She might think it's cool at first that she has a space to herself in your room. You may also find that the novelty of that wears off....LOL...and she may move on to something else.   ;)    Worth a try though!

Haha ok thank you. She goes to bed at 8 usually asleep by 8.30/8.45 and wakes at 6.45 these mornings has a little doze beside us before we get up at 8am. She's moving about a lot at that time so think it's hard for her to get back to sleep.

She could well be OT just starting school and need a slightly earlier BT. Is she taking longer than usual to fall asleep?

Sleeping bag on the floor? She can be in your room but quietly and not in your bed. Then you have a little leeway before the other one comes in, and hopefully more sleep?

Worked for us for a while. :)

We do/have done the sleeping bag on our floor like the other ladies.  Helps everyone get some more sleep!

Always takes her about 1/2 hour to fall asleep. I'll try and earlier bedtime and the floor although I think she will not like that bit as she loves her cuddles. Her dad works a lot so that hour in our bed in The morning is the only time she sees him these days.

That's probably your reason right there. Even at 5.5, DS comes in wanting more cuddles if he hasn't seen me as much as usual.

Poor chap is probably needing his sleep if he's working that much!

Hi ladies I'm back again.

My 3 year old comes into the bed around 1pm which is fine. Then my 4.5 year o,d comes in around 3am and gets into the set up bed on the floor. She stays there for a while then wants into the bed 😢 There is physically no room for the 4 of us and dh ended up shouting at her last night as he was so frustrated. She cried and I tried to comfort her but 10 minutes later she was crying again.
Dh got up and went into the girls empty bed then!

I don't know what to do. She's getting on great at school etc. Please can someone help we are all tired xxx

Might be time for two beds on the floor. "Everyone is getting so big that there's no room for all 4 of us on the big bed - just Daddy and me!"

Alternately, alternate nights? We did that for a while too. One kid's night for the sleeping bag, the other for the bed.

The floor on your room is still probably preferable to not being allowed in at all in the end. :)
