6mo early waking
« on: October 06, 2016, 20:01:20 pm »
Hi there

My 6 MO DS has started (last 3 days in a row) to wake for the day at 4.30 am!  Whhhhhaaaaattttt?!

Any ideas on this one?  Here is his EASY:

6 am wake for the day (usually!)
6.30 am bottle
7.30/8am solids
8.45 am S
10.30 am wake and bottle
12 pm solids
1 pm S
2.30/3 pm wake and bottle
5 pm solids
6 pm start of bottle, bath
6.30 pm finish bottle, bedtime
1.30 am bottle
(there is kind of a murky irregularity from here on in.. sometimes he wakes 5 am, sometimes 6 am, sometimes start his first bottle at 5 am if he seems hungry then put him back down etc.  He only recently dropped waking at 10.30 pm for a feed so this hour of the morning isn't quite consistent yet... but then this 4.30 am thing started!!)

Happy, chatting, babbling, little bit of whinging (as in why aren't you in here playing with me kind of whinging).  but 4.30am!

TIA for any advice :)

Is he teething?  Mine always used to wake around 45 mins earlier than usual if so - think the discomfort was just enough to prevent them making the next sleep cycle transition without waking and then they were too rested to drop back off again.

Routine actually doesn't look bad at all, the only thing I'd perhaps wonder is could you push out the second nap a little more so the stretch to bedtime is a bit shorter?  And possible even push out your first A time to a full 3 hours?

Thanks jessmum!  You may be right on the teething.  It has gone away the last couple of days so fingers crossed.

So you think maybe full 3 hour A time?  Mornings can usually be 3 hours if he wakes early, I keep the nap at 9 am anyway so that I try not to reinforce the early waking.

Sounds pretty doable to me.  Thanks!
