4.30am wake up! Need some advice
« on: October 07, 2016, 10:56:35 am »
Hi, I haven't posted in a while but need some advice.

My daughter is 2yr 3m, she dropped her nap 3months ago and now only has one occasionally when we're in the car.

She was waking from 7-6.30/7 but recently (last 3/4 weeks) has been waking at 5am..this morning was 4.30!

She is currently napping so don't know what time to put her to bed or how to get out of it.

We took her dummy away around the time this started, she is in a bed so gets out and there's no getting her back ti sleep at 5am.

Thanks for any replys
A.

Hi there!

EWs are exhausting, aren't they.  Could you post her last few days like this:

Wu time:
Nap (if she had one)
Bedtime:

That might help work out what is happening.
Also could anything else be bothering her: teething?
Any other changes in her life e.g. Starting nursery?
Does she go to sleep independently at night?
Does she have any other comforter since stopping the dummy?
Do you have a gro-clock or similar?

2yo is quite early to stop napping completely (although some LOs do) so it's not unusual to need catch up naps every so often but it is a bit of a juggle to balance day & night sleep.

Thanks for your reply.

She has a back tooth coming through but that never seems to bother her really.
She goes to sleep on her own at night after a few times getting out of bed.
She has a bear comfortor she likes and sleeps with that, we have got a gro clock which is set for 6am to get up at the mo which she occasionally listens to.

I agree 2y is early to stop the nap, she refuses at home so will only drop off if we're in the car but some days she doesn't even do that. If she naps in the day it takes her ages to go to sleep at night.

Her last few days have looked like this

Fri: WU 4.30
NAP 11ish for 1.5hr
Bed 7 (put her down at 6pm she mucked around for an hour)

Sat:WU 6am
No nap
Bed asleep by 7pm

Sun: WU 5.50
Nap: 1-2 (1hr)
Bed asleep by 7pm

Thanks A.

Hmmmm I'm not sure. If she hadn't already dropped the nap, I'd say those 3 days looked like a pretty typical 1-0 transition.

I still wonder if molars could be contributing. I have a friend IRL who has a little boy who doesn't seem bothered by teething g but does wake early when they are coming in.  Sleep can be quite light in the early morning so could be disrupted by discomfort.

If that's it, then you might just need to ride it out, let her nap in day to catch up if she needs to but stuck with a set BT.

On other hand, EW can also be a sign of OT. How long after dropping her nap did the EW start?
