Great day routine rubbish night time :(
« on: October 08, 2016, 09:03:07 am »
My little man is 20 weeks now and is in a great day time routine feeding roughly every 3 hours and sleeping great... he goes down awake both for day naps and bed time and settles himself to sleep really well! It's in the nght he wakes so much and just can't seem to settle himself back off.
I am still feeding at nght so maybe this is a problem but he won't settle until he's had a feed.
Two health visitors have said to start weaning but he shows no interest in food and I just feel he's a little too young..
Any help with the night time bit would be great :)

Here's our day roughly...

Wake 6am feed
Back to sleep till maybe 7ish
Feed 9-9.30
Sleep 9-9.30 for about an hour
Feed 12.30-1pm
Sleep 1.15-3.15 ish
Feed 3.30-4
Bath 6.15
Feed 6.30-6.45
Asleep in bed about 7-7.15

Often wakes for a feed 10-11pm
Then 1-2am
Then 3-4am
And after 4am he really struggles to settle.

So in the day he can go 3-4 hours between feeds but night time only 2 hours!

Maybe he is OT by BT, this can cause NW and early waking or being unsettled from an early hour. That last A time is super long for a 5 month old and significantly longer than the other A times.
I would suggest you try the first nap later in the morning, more like 10am (approx 3hr A) and then nap 2 later, say 2pm so that the A time before BT is reduced to no longer than 3hrs.
You might find that nap 1 is a bit longer with him being more tired for the nap, maybe 1.5-2 hrs in which case you could do nap 2 a little later too.  The aim being to reduce that last A time.

How about try that for a few days and see how he settles into it during the day and then if the nights change at all?

Ah okay yes this makes sense! But like today he woke from his pm nap at 2.40 so he had another nap 4.15-5pm as I knew he wouldn't make it to bed time from being awake so early!

So maybe something like this...

6,30am feed
Wake 7 ish
Feed 9.30
Sleep 10-11.30/12
Feed 12.30/1pm
Sleep 2/3-4
Feed 4pm
Feed 6.30pm
Bed time 7pm?

Does that sound better?
