5 month old - 3:2 transition?
« on: January 20, 2017, 15:52:21 pm »
Hi
My baby boy will be 5 months old next saturday, and i have been really having a hard time putting him down for that 3rd nap of the day; he really fights it so I'm not sure whether he is too uoung to give it up.  He does sleep 11-12 hours during the night. Here's his day on easy format:
7am - awake
7:20/7:30 E
7:30-9:00 A
9 - 10:30/11 S
11:30 E
11:30 - 1pm A
1:15 - 2:30/3pm S
3:30 E
3:30-5pm A
5:15 - 5:45pm S (this is where we have issues)
5:45-7pm A
7:15pm E
7:30 S

Please share your thoughts!

Hi there. It's very common for babies around the 5/6 month mark to start dropping that 3rd nap. Have a read of the attached to see if it's of any use - All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months

You will probably need to lengthen his A times more before you can completely drop the nap and as they increase you can start to cap that 3rd nap shorter until dropping it completely.

Come back if you want to chat some more  :)

Thank you for your reply.
I've noticed that on the proposed EASY schedule on your link, there isnt enough time to keep the feeding times of every 4 hours. It will clash with the S time. Any thoughts?

A: 7am-10am
S: 10:00-11:30
A: 11:30-2:30
S: 2:30-4pm
A: 4pm-7pm

I think at this stage my girls could go a little longer than 4hrs so in your example if they were fed at 7am they would last until 11.30 for their next one.

Or you could try a little top up before her nap?
