Ugh it is so annoying isn't it?  How have things been since that night?

Better no more long NW. He is still waking though but I figured out that he's OT even on long naps bc the days become too long. I'm trying to keep it max 13 hour days. It's hard bc the nanny sometimes has trouble getting him down which ends up pushing the day out.

I'm trying to stick to the following for a week to see.

WU 7-7:30 am
S 12:45/1pm (1.5-2 hrs)
BT 8-8:30 pm

I was trying set nap and it seemed to cause refusal at BT or OT nights

Some nights are better than others. I notice if he goes to sleep too late then we get restless nights including longer NW. Also my nanny let him nap for 2.5 hours which caused a longer day thus a restless night.

He has one canine that's not all the way grown out. He's drooling and moaning in his sleep, could that be the canine or is it a sign of second year molars 😳 He's about to be 21 months.

Could be either - both mine had all their teeth through including 2y molars before they were two...

This week we have been having horrendous nights. Can you take a look as I am trying to figure out what it could be.

This whole week he's been restless at night,mornings but. This morning he woke up crying at 5:45 but managed to go back to sleep. Not sure how I should adjust.

Any suggestions? It hasn't gotten better. He only got about 8.5 hours of sleep last night. Is he OT or UT or both?
 
His EASY is supposed to be:

BT 8:30 pm

With all the crazy wake up times I can't seem to stick to it.

I'm getting long NW and EMW. This can't all be teeth can it? I'm so exhausted. I feel like we went from a regression to canines and now whatever this is. 😣

We had both with teeth, DS was a horrible teether   There is a possibility that it could be UT but I'm always a bit hesitant to suggest that if teeth are in the mix as cutting sleep can make things worse rather than better.  I guess that you could always try cutting nap slightly if nothing else working and see what difference it makes?  But think about whether there are any other possibilities in terms of discomfort too - a cold, tummy upset?

I think it may be a mix of teeth and UT.

Yesterday he was with our nanny. I told her to put him down at 12:30 so his routine remains somewhat consistent.

WU 6:15 am
S 12:35-2:30 pm
BT 7:20 (asleep)

He did much better even though I think he was a tad OTdue to the extra long day.

I'm trying this to see:

WU 7 am
S 1-3 pm
BT 8 pm

Does that seem ok? I tried today and he woke up super cranky despite napping for two hours. Should I give it a couple of days or am I just wrong and go back to the old routine?

Update:

It's 2 am and he was up since 12:30! He had restless sleep up until that point but didn't wake. He kept fighting sleep; tossing and turning would drift then jolt awake. This was today:

WU 7 am
S 1-3 pm (woke up super cranky and very clingy)
BT 8:20 pm (fought sleep for 20 minutes; maybe I put down too late?)

Seems like he was OT bc of the day? Ahhhhh I'm ripping my hair out from sheer exhaustion. Between the regression and canines, the last couple of months have been so unpredictable in terms of sleep.

I would stick with the routine you planned for a week and then re-evaluate if needed.  I think it looks reasonable but if bedtime continues to be tough I'd try shaving 15-30 mins off the nap.  DS could still do 2h at this age without it affecting bedtime, DD had her nap capped to 1.5h and it was often closer to 1h x

Ok I'll give it a bit longer. We had a EMW of 6:45 am but I think it was bc he took his nap with the nanny at 5.5 slept for more than 2 hours making him too wired for bed so fell asleep at 9:30. That makes a nearly 14 hour day with a 6hr A to bed 😳

My question is when he takes his nap earlier and sleeps for 2 plus hours should I stick to his normal A to bed? I find that 5.25-5.5 is the sweet spot unless he does a longer A in the am then it's closer to 5 hrs.

I've always done set bedtime I'm afraid, so not much help there.  You may just need to experiment x

Lol I want to go that route. So how long did it take for yours to adjust to that? I want a set time of 8 pm ideally.

It seems UT is at play or itsalso developmental. He's given me short nights of 9-10 hours with 2 hour naps. Seems not enough but he wakes up happy and sometimes talks in his sleep and gives me longer NW. I'm wondering if I should move his nap slightly earlier and shorter then bed. So:

S 12:45-2:30 pm
BT 8 pm

Does that make sense to try? I'm trying to avoid cutting the nap lol

They never really adjusted...it was really what we did from the start (I just found it easier to manage that way!).  I'd give it a go and see   But yes if you are getting very short nights and/or chatty periods at night it may be time to shave a little off that nap length....

Ok I'll give it a go. It seems some days he wants an earlier nap and some days he fights it until an A of 6. Weird thing is that he must have been OT from a bad night but fought sleep for a half hour so went down at 6A but gave me an OT nap. He didn't show any signs of tiredness or didn't tell me he wanted sleep which is what he does if he wants an earlier nap. I guess I put him down too late today.

I should mention he is now sick...again lol
