At my wits end ! 13 month old waking earlier &I earlier
« on: February 08, 2017, 06:09:28 am »
I literally could sit her sobbing Cruz has always woke earlier then I managed to get him sleeping till 6 then he went back to waking at 5 now it's getting even early 4.40 he been awake since just
Was 4ish yday and Saturday he woke at 4.20
He screams the place down he went back of in the end yday but I don't no what to do ! I seriously can't keep getting up st these times it's depressing and I have two other. It's I can barely function
I just want him to sleep till at least 6am
He has always gone to bed quit early at 6ish it's normally 6.15 now but that works for us he has still always slept til at least 5 like I said I did get him doing 6-6 so why is he waking up even earlier now?
He has also been crying in the night lately where has he was sleeping thru

So he woke at 4.40 this morning I lay next to his cot he didn't go back to sleep I've just got up with him at 6am why does my child wake so early !

It's such a vicious circle because now he's been awake so early he's going to fall asleep on the school run there for nap early when I managed to get him sleeping til 6 his awake time was like 4 hours and was staying awake til after school run now he's waking early I'm lucky if he's awake 3 hours before needin a nap it feels like we're going back wards

Yday he had 50 mins nap all day because he only had one nap as he would take another because the first nap was later as he slept in late due to be awake screaming at 4

Sunday 5th February ❤️ slept thru
Heard him around 4ish went bk of
5.05am - woke up
8.45 - 9.45 nap
1.30pm - 2.40pm nap
6.12pm - calpol 9oz
6.22pm - bed

Monday 6th February ❤️
1.50am - crying didnt go in
5am - woke up
5.35am - got up
8.35am - nap pram
1.30pm - 2.50 nap
6pm - 8oz
6.10pm - bed

Tuesday 7th February 💙
3.50ish - screaming the place down standing up gave calpol
finally went bk to sleep
6.50am - woke up
10.45am -  11.45 nap
5.35pm - 7oz
5.45pm - bed (early because one nap)

Wednesday 8th February 💙
4.40am - wouldn't go bk sleep lay by cot
6am - got up with him

I don't no if I should push for one nap? Or what I need to do but Ino one thing I can't keep doing this
Any tips ? Ideas he's 13 months on the 12th!
I don't really want him in bed later than 6.30 so I do expect him to wake earlier than a lot of kids but my toddler goes to bed early as he don't nap and I like to sort the baby to bed first
Even 6.30-5.30 would be great! It's still early Ino

I defo no the short awake time doesn't help the early wakings but how do I get him staying awake later when he's so tired from waking earlier
Plz help x

So he fel asleep on the school run at 8.20am should I wake him after half hour and then hopefully he will have a hour and half this afternoon
If I wake at 8.50 what time would u do afternoon nap?
Should I always cap the one nap to half hour regardless of how early he got up
It's half term soon so will be able to work on the first nap as there won't be a school run so no pram to fall asleep in
Should I do set naps if so what times would u suggest x

From what you listed, his total sleep per 24 hrs is about 12-12.5 hrs. Is this typical or has been much more before? Has he been resisting any of the naps?

He seems to naturally fall asleep around 8:30 in the morning, so I would push this to 8:45, for 20 mins. Then after 3 days or so, push to 9:00 for 20 mins. Offer the pm nap right around 1 pm, so that you have a decent awake time to bed around 6/6:30, or ~4 hrs after his last nap.  So 1.20 min day sleep, and 11 hrs night sleep. Your wake up will probably be around 5 or 5:30 at this rate.

We're hoping that the shorter nap in the morning will help keep his day sleep short, pm sleep nice, and night sleep long.  Pushing it out later will hopefully shift morning wu later.

My goal around this stage for my son was similar except our BT was later around 7:00.  Then we flopped the naps, and we pushed the am one out later and later until he reached around 11:00/11:30, with a 15 car nap around 4 or 5, bed at 7:00.

Thanks for the reply well he normally needs around 2 hours of day time sleep and he has normally always done 11/12 hours at night has been 11 lately

He has had two one hour naps the last two days and woke up at more reasonable times stil 5.20ish but obv he's in bed early which I get x

So glad he gave you a decent day!

If his total sleep has been 12-13 before, then he might be going through a phase. Although, as they get into toddlerhood, their total amount of sleep CAN decrease. I heard it depends on the child. Mine dropped his total sleep from 11.5/12 to 10.5/11 total hours, LSN kid.

I do know that as they get older day sleep starts to interfere with night sleep. Figuring out exactly how much for your child is a trial and error process.
You can try decreasing 2 hr total nap time to 1.5 for now like you sort of have... 30 min in the morning, 1 hr in the pm.  or 20 min am, 1.10 in the pm.

Hope the later wake ups continue for you! Hang in there.

Hi, I hope this helps. You son sleeps 11 hrs at night. That is totally normal that he wakes at 5 if you put him to sleep at 6. I would try adjusting his routin e such that he can go to sleep at 7.

The other problem would be first nap too early. My DD was very sensitive to this, so I would delay her nap by 15 min and see if that improves the whole picture (I.e. her nap would be still continuous and not interrupted from OT, but she would also start getting up a little later in a.m.). That usually worked.

My DD slept 12-13 hrs during the day total. It is a little short but it changed only when she started napping once, which I think over all improved her sleep as I didn't have to wake her up to "fit all the naps".
