8.5mth old feeds 3hrly at night
« on: May 11, 2017, 01:31:30 am »
Ahh, I'm tired. This little guy has never slept well. Recently he has stopped feeding 2hrly at night but doesn't get past 3hrly. With my other babies at this age, if they woke this often it was more of a snack, but this guy takes full feeds both sides. During the day, he barely asks for milk feeds. I feed 3.5-4hrly. I tried feeding more often in the day, but he takes less. He is constantly moving in the day, so it is hard to get him to take massive feeds like he does at night. What can I do? He has 2-3 solid meals a day. He does have food intolerances to dairy, gluten, corn, high histamine foods and can only have eggs occasionally.

His EASY
6.30 wake feed, but sometime not hungry for a full feed
7.30 solids - usually oatmeal or rice puffs mixed with formula and fruit purée
9.30 top up feed
10am naps short nap while out - 30-45mins
11.30 full feed
12.30/1 lunch - noodles stir fry, quinoa cooked in bone broth with veg
1.30 top up feed
2pm nap
3.30/4 wake
4pm full feed
5.30 dinner - lentil and bean chilli with rice (last night) or chicken stir fry
6.30 feed
7pm sleep. Sometimes self settles, sometimes not

Looking at the sample easy, most had this age have dropped a lot their day feeds.  I give top ups before naps to help sleep better. Do they not need this anymore? Am I trying to give too much in the day? Soo confusing.

If anything I'd look at the solids he's filling up on.  Milk still needs to be the main source of nutrition but if LO is eating too much solid food it can sometimes be difficult to fit enough in during the day.  That's when they make up for it during the night. Do you think this is possible?

I don't think you need to cut any BFs out on the day,  no. The samples are just a guide to what Tracy did. Many are having more if BFing on demand as recommended by WHO.

Sure. Im pretty relaxed with solids though. On a gpod day Ill offer all three meals, but normally he has two meal and not overly massive. He seems to need breakfast though. Even though I give him a bf when hr eakes, he will cry within 30mins or so for solids.  Should I offer another bf at this point? He also is highly distracted during the day. He has much shorter feeds because he is way too busy.

Yes, distraction can be an issue as LO gets older. I always found feeding as soon as mine woke from naps,  often still in the dim bedroom helped.
