Struggling with bedtime - 13 month old
« on: June 29, 2017, 21:23:23 pm »
Hi
Just looking for some guidance on when to try and transition from 2-1 nap.
Our 13.5 month old has two naps a day and doesn't fight them at all but really fights bedtime with typically a 20-40 minute of crying/ resetting required.
Her typical sleep is below

WU between 6-6.45am

Nap 1 9.30-10.15 (no resistance and just goes to sleep herself in Oct
Nap 2 1.30-2.30-3pm and sometimes have to wake

Start bathtime 615 ish and typically bottle and into cot around 6.50-7pm
Then usually have a good 20 mins of crying. Her recent trick is to keep sitting up and trying to pull herself up.
I have to get DD1 into bed as well who is usually exhausted and needs to be in bed for 7pm
DD2 can often just be moaning crying softly or chatting and usually going into her makes her escalate and if we pU/pd then that results in hysteria so I am not sure what to do. She usually does go to sleep herself in cot but it seems to take ages. A later bedtime doesn't really help either.

Any thoughts appreciated
X
Claire

Hi there
Looks like you need moving over to Toddler Sleep now :)  Time flies hey?

Have you considered capping the first nap a bit shorter, maybe 30 mins instead of 45?  Then with that nap ending 15 mins earlier move nap 2 15 mins earlier too. The idea then having a shorter first nap, slightly less day sleep, long afternoon nap and then it automatically gives her a little extra A time before BT to help her go to sleep at the normal BT.
What do you think?

Hi
Well she has started settling a lot better at bedtime but is still having two naps. Am reducing the morning nap to 30 minutes but still think she needs it.
Don't want to jinx but she has slept the last few nights 7pm- 6.30am which is great for her

Well that's a great update! :)

There's no need to hurry towards one nap, lots of LOs do still need 2.  I've seen routines where the short nap is reduce a little each time the routine goes off track with nap ro BT resistance, just reducing by 5 or 10 mins each time then holding there until there next tweak is needed.  Eventually LO is having just a little 10 min nap for a while before it's dropped. Sounds to me like a pleasant way to move towards the nap drop, not at all like my DS! ha!

Hope the nights continue to be good for you.
