Not very interested in afternoon bottle
« on: May 22, 2017, 10:34:21 am »
My 10 mo lo has 3 bottles. Morning and bedtime are both 8-9 oz and I offer him one at around 2-3 pm but he's not very interested and only takes about 4 oz. is he ready to drop to just 2 bottles already?

Does he have a big solids lunch? DS1 dropped his afternoon bottle around that age and DS2 at 11 months.
You can always give him the milk in other ways like sauces or puddings x

You could always offer that few oz in a sip cup with a solids snack if he needs one rather than in a bottle. They need 20 oz of milk uo until 1 year, so just keep an eye on how much milk and dairy he has in a day.

I have him the formula in the sippy cup yesterday afternoon and he took a few oz. but he's starting to take less of his morning bottle too. He takes about 6 oz in morning about 4 afternoon and 8-9 at night which is under 20! I think I remember with my first lo switching formula for whole milk in the bottle offering two bottles morning and night then putting it into a sippy cup.

You can switch to cow's milk once they hit their first birthday, before that you can't use it to replace breast milk of formula as it's not nutritionally complete enough to be a substitute. After 1 milk is a drink not a food so cow's milk is fine then.

He's just 11 months. He takes about 8 oz in morning and 8 at night. I put some in a sippy cup in the afternoon and he may or may not take about 4-6 oz. so he is only about 16-20 oz but he he does eat cheese we are working on yogurt but he's a great eater.

My pediatrician wants him off of a bottle by his first birthday. I guess I'll just put milk in a sippy cup and sit with him to drink in morning and before bed. With his sippy cup sometimes he drinks it and then spits it out not sure if he just doesn't want it or what.
