2 year old short nap
« on: September 07, 2017, 17:43:28 pm »
My recently turned two year old has been napping very short the last few days.  She used to nap 2 hours then it began shrinking to 1.5 to an hour and now yesterday and today half hour and 20 min.  She hasn't dozed in the morning we don't let her sleep anywhere in the car or anything.

In the 24 hours she only gets 10 maybe 11 if we are lucky hours of sleep.

She will wake and say things like open door, more water, stinky diaper but has a cup of water in bed she wouldn't have finished.

Wake up 6:30-7.
Goes to part time school in the morning for 3 hours.
In bed to nap at 12:45
Bedtime is asleep at 8.

Hi there - this could be part of a regression around the 2 year birthday mark or it could be that she is dropping her sleep needs? Could you put her down for her nap a bit later? Or if you feel that she is very over tired she may even need an earlier nap time for a bit!

Thank you I am too unsure if this is regression or less sleep needs but last night we put her to sleep at 7:30 and she was asleep at 7:40.  She woke up at 5:40 today and we didn't go to her and she was quiet looked like she resettled by 6:15 but up again screaming for us 6:40.  No AM dozing at school.  Napped 12:50-1:15 way too short.  Her 24 hour sleep is just over 10 hours :(

That does sound too little sleep for a 2 year old. When was her birthday? For us the yearly regression happened 4 weeks before and lasted till 4 weeks after his birthday!

Her birthday was last Sunday.  Late development she's been having diarrhea and pooped 7 times yesterday.  So now I don't know if it's regression or stomach bug.  Also woke twice last night which is unusual.

Prime time for regression then - hopefully it will settle back down again in a couple of weeks. Hope she feels better soon x

Thanks so you'd classify as regression?  Again another half hour nap today.  Woke in the night again last.
Night too.  Do you recommend just staying consistent and leaving her?

Hi there
How are things going now?  Hopefully she's past any possible illness and things have settled.

I found my DS's sleep went off track every birthday, it still does and he is 6yo.
