Night sleep waking 30min after putting him down?
« on: September 12, 2017, 00:13:54 am »
Lo is 4 1/2 months old. Still doing his cat nap during the day although the last 10 days or so he has a nap for about 1:30/2hr nap in the morning ( not always though) I usually keep him up for about 1:45/2 hrs from the tim he wakes to the time I put him down. His last nap of the day I try not to keep it so it ends no later than 4:30/5pm. Then I try to put him to bed around 7pm ish 6:30 if he wakes from his last nap at4:30pm. Regardless he s end to always wake and stir around the 30 min make and sometimes he is easy to settle right back to bed and other times it takes some coaching.  Any suggestions on how to deal with it? I've given up on the whole cat napping during the day in hopes that he will transition on his own.
Easy
Wake 7:30/8am
Eat 8am
Activity 7:30/8 -9:30/10
Sleep 10-10:30/ 10-11:30(depends)
Eat 11/11:30
Activity 11-1pm
Sleep 1-1:30pm
Eat 2/2:30pm
Activity 2/2:30- 4:30
Sleep 4:30-5pm
Eat 5:30/6pm
Activity 5:30-7:30pm
Sleep 7:30pm
Df 10-10:30pm
Usually wakes around 3/4am for a feed and wakes for the day around  7:30/8

So this is pretty classic for a baby who is overtired at BT.

Trust me, it is rare for me to say this but I think you may need to wind your A times back a bit to 2hr, 2:15 at the max. The short naps of 30min you're getting are classic OT as well and I think if you keep stretching that first A time to 2.5hr, its going to be another couple of weeks before he settles into that and reliably takes long naps. I suspect winding that first A time back to 2hr/2:15, will set you up better for a long first nap and for the rest of the day to go much better with 2hr A times.

Yes sorry that is what I am doing right now only keeping him awake for 2 hrs max. The easy chart above may have been a bit confusing to reflect that. But from the time he wakes to the time he sleeps I kee to about 2 hrs max. During the day his activity time gets less since he's only had a 30 min nap and I know he can't do 2 hrs activity time. I'm wondering how long should I keep his last activity time before bed if he wakes up at 4:30 or 5pm?

Thanks again for your help!!

Have you tried resettling by being there around 25min into the nap and shush/patting or replicating your soothing to sleep so he can transition? That's going to be more important than trying to figure out how long to keep him up for the last A time when he's had no restorative naps all day.
