Who knows what my 13mth old needs?
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:05:01 am »
This kiddo has never slept through and the fact he woke once last night is a miracle.  If he had two naps a day, he would wake often at night, if he has one nap he wakes often still. Ive noticed, when out and about he will always nap in the car if driving about 10.30 which doesnt help our attempts at a consistent routine.   Ive noticed the last few days if he has a tiny 10min nap in thr car, he will nap at lunch, and sleep a 6hr stretch at night which is awesome. BUT, he wakes at 5.30am. Got any ideas on what EASY would be a good plan? The 6hr stretch is awesome and important as he needs this for growth, but as long as he is having a short nap in am, will we always expect an early wake?
Easy the last two days that has given him less waking at night with a 5.30WU

5.30am wake
10ish fall asleep in car for short nap
12.30 -2/2.30 Nap
7.30 - sleep - always self settles
1 30 wake and feed

One nap easy
6 30/7am wake
12pm-1.30/2pm nap
7pm
Wakes 3-4hrly all night.

I think on those 5:30 wake up days, he's effectively doing a 7hr stretch from wake up to 12:30... since the 10 min nap isn't restorative. BT at 7:30 makes it a 14hr day which might be affecting him as well. We could shorten both of these by trying this:

WU 5:30
CN 10:00 (10 min)
N 12:00-2
BT 7:00

Weaning the night feeds (gradually if you'd like to keep feeding longer) might help with the NWs. Do you feed only at a certain time in the MOTN or with every wake?

Do you think seeing he has a longer stretch at night on a two nap day it is a sign he needs a mini cat nap still?

Ive just tried sitting next to his cot after a night wake. After 1.5hrs of crying, he has started vomitting. Surely there has to b an easier way, no?

Yes, he might still need his CN.

Oh dear... poor thing and mama.  Were you trying to follow a certain plan for sleep training? He might need more support in the beginning, even feeding him but reducing the amount/time each day.

Here is a gentle method that takes a lot of time, but helps kiddos who need the time to wean.
