No nap one day a week - how to make this work?
« on: October 13, 2017, 17:55:29 pm »
Hi,

J is 3yr 4ms and still loves his nap. We have to drag him out of bed every afternoon and have been slowly reducing to 1.75hr with a 10hr night. We think he may just get grumpier if we cap further and end up just dropping at some point (creations does this sound familiar?). We were wondering if bt resistance was starting and whether to cap the nap further but things have become a little complicated and we are not sure how to go forward.

J was at nursery four mornings a week, but in September started doing three mornings and one full day, finishing at 3.30pm. He isn't napping at nursery and things are starting to fall apart.

Last week he went to bed early and was asleep more than an hour earlier than usual, but woke early the next morning and wouldn't re-settle. He then needed early nap and slightly ebt that day.

This week he went down early again at bt, but woke at 10.30pm and needed help for nearly two hours before he fully settled again.

He seems OT all the time now and even he says he is tired. He goes to sleep very easily for his nap, within a couple of minutes. At bt it can take a lot longer and that has always been the case. We have to wake him from nap every day, but he seems to be waking earlier in the morning. If it wasn't for the nnd we would just have begun capping the nap more assuming the ewu was slightly UT. But now with the nnd we just don't know whether they are UT/OT or developmental as he is falling apart much more frequently through the day and having some violent tantrums at times. Although that may just be him being OT. We are also only just finishing the two year molars.

Typical day is:
WU 7-7.30 (sometimes now waking earlier
Nap 1.45-3.30
Asleep 9-9.30

On the nursery nnd he has been asleep shortly after 8pm.

Do we persist with the full day at nursery and hope that we will settle into a routine that lets him catch up on the lost sleep or are we going to need a serious re-think? We have missed so few naps that we really don't know if he tacks on at night.

Any thoughts really appreciated.

Rhiannon
