21 month old ?
« on: October 12, 2017, 18:52:25 pm »
Hi girls
What should wake and nap times look nice now how long should they be napping he’s 2 in January and has been sleeping great till just lately he’s taking forever to go to sleep we put him to bed and he just lies there takes his socks of plays with them babbles away
The only thing I’ve changed is his quilt from a cot quilt to a actual toddler quilt he doesn’t cry he just lies there talking to himself h s beenup tjere a hour and half
Now
And he goes to bed early but this hasn’t been a problem
Till last few days he normally goes right of
He wakes 6-6.30 now and then will go till 7am

Nap is usually 12-1.30 when I normally have to wake him up
I tried the last few days 11.30-1 instead to see if the longer awake time after nap would help it did the first days but not since

Is a hour and half to long? He goes right to sleep for his nap
I don’t really want him going any later than 6.30 my middle child goes at 7
Obv if there is nothing else I can do I will move bed later but like now at 7.50 he’s still awake when normally he’s asleep come 6.30 so it’s not like he’s just awake til like 7 .
I have no idea what’s changed suddenly

He sleeps through once he’s asleep z

It could just be that he has entered a developmental leap - there is a language leap at 21 months (obviously slightly earlier or later for some) which can throw sleep off like any development can.  I remember posting about my DS suddenly going off track with his sleep at this age too.  I think the phase lasted a couple of weeks so perhaps just hang in there for now and the routine will go back to how it was before the leap?

If you changed the cot quilt maybe try switching it back and see if that helps?

You could also try some additional physical activity before BT. At this age (and for a long time) mine did much better with lots of gross motor before BT, rather than having that extended BT we put our energies into setting up activities for after dinner so he had the opportunity to use up the last of his physical energy. We did:
- toddler band, all of us marching with instruments and singing, walking from family room to kitchen and back, many many times. He often started jogging.
- chase and tig/tag
- Mr wolf (more chase)
- wrestling with Mummy (controlled wrestling)

Another thing I often do during phases of not going to sleep at BT is to do the wind down and put down later, it doesn't necessarily make actual sleep time all that much later, it reduces how long you are going in and out for.

hope this helps some

Yes I'd just stick with the nap you've been regularly doing.
Teeth are terrible, but this language leap is a shocker too. I think just try to reassure yourself by knowing lots of us had a tricky phase during this age and it really does pass.  It can lead you to believe the nap neds to go or be capped further but chances are everything will go back to normal for another few months before you start the 1-0.

If anything my DS needs the long nap he's shattered from all this chattering away lol, he even asked for bed at nap time today and went at 12 rather than 1pm after a 12 hour night. Little brains are just so active x
