A bit lost with the nap, 2 years old
« on: October 14, 2017, 06:17:39 am »
My ds2 is so inconsistent, I never really know what i'm doing with him. We were having serious bedtime messing and early waking with his nap at 1.15 to 2. 45. So we have been chopping it down and now the bedtime messing has  stopped but the early waking isn't much better. Or is it even counting as early waking of he has had 10.5 hours sleep?
Earlier this week he slept great 1 night
Nap 2pm to 2.45
Bt 7.30, asleep 7.45
Wu 7.15am

But then the next day we were back to this
Wu 7. 15
Nap 2pm to 2.45
Bt 7.30
Wu 6am
It doesn't seem like much night sleep on a 45 min nap!?

Hi Gemma, This is the age of the EW I am afraid! Has he just turned 2? Could it be a regression? There are many sleep shenanigans at the 2 YO birthday! Often things settle down again after a few weeks.

His nap seems a bit late? Have you tried earlier and maybe he could have a longer nap? 45 mins could be a bit of OT?

Is he normally low sleep needs?

I don't know if he is low sleep needs as such but he dropped to 1 nap at 12 months so probably does have a bit less than is normal?! He turned 2 on 13th September so not long ago really. He was having earlier and longer, we were at 1.30 to 2.45 for a while. He had a little longer today, (dh in charge!) about 1.40 to 3 so I'll see  what happens tonight.
Thanks for the input, I didn't realise ew was common this age. My ds1 was totally different! Napped for hours til over age 3, no problems!

So dh says yesterday's nap was more like 1.40 to 2.50, so 1hr10. He went to bed at 7.30, messed about til 8 and was awake at 6.15am this morning.

Olly dropped his 2nd nap at 12 months old, then refused altogether at the 2 year regression. Went back to normal though and then dropped them at around 3.

I tended to keep WU time form the nap the same and then cut it back from the start of the nap. Otherwise we would have UT bed time shenanignans. I think that nap WU time was 2.30 and BT 7.30 so kept that 2nd A at 5 hours.

HTH x

That helps, thanks. I think I'll give longer then and wake at. 2.30 and work from there.

Thanks, we did 1.30 to 2.30 so I'll see what happens tonight and in the morning!
