How can I fix this?? 19 month old sleep
« on: May 01, 2018, 11:22:38 am »
I’m sooooooo Exhausted!!!!
My 19 month old wakes up at 4am every day, we leave him in there and he just babbles! Sometimes he cries but mostly babbling.
This goes on for 1.5 hours! He tries to fall asleep again by 5:30 am  but keeps waking every 15 min.
Then he up by 7am

It has been 1 month of this with NO improvement!

I’ve tried putting him to bed early (7:30pm)- but he just wakes at 3am doing the same thing
We’ve tried later like 8-8:30pm, still nothing.

He seems to be doing 8 hours night sleep and then 1.5 hours afternoon nap- sometimes 2 hours. So he’s only getting about 10 hours of sleep!
Why doesn’t he sleep more at night????
I’m starting to lose my mind lol

How can I fix this???? Please help!!!!

No he’s not teething
Generally happy boy and shy
But lately very cranky when he doesn’t get his way lol

There was 1 night when he slept good and napped good as well, and he was not cranky at lol. So I know it’s coming from lack of sleep and not teething

The other day he was up for 2 hours 3am-5!!!! I don’t understand this

What time is his nap? It could be a developmental leap, my DS1 had EW like this for a good 4 months at this age (sorry)x

Sounds a lot like 18 month regression to me. Usually the advice is to continue the routine you were on before the regression and just grit your teeth through it until you get to the other side, but I did notice with mine that he needed an A time increase and I've seen similar on other threads with the 18 month regression too.

Sorry for late response
It got a bit better, I’ve accepted the fact that he only gets about 9-10 night sleep. So we just put him to bed later like at 9pm. Then he wakes just 1x around 3am, little cry and babbling. It lasts for about 30 min. Then he wakes at 7am.

He takes a nap at daycare usually 12:30-2– about 1.5 hrs.  Some days are less and then the night gets bad too. I find if he naps well then night time is good.

I know 9pm is late but every time we put him earlier to bed, then he wakes up frequently at night.

10hrs night sleep is an improvement on 10 hrs overall in 24hrs :)

Is there any pattern to his nap length, any reason you can think why it is sometimes shorter leading to the bad night?
I wonder if his nap needs to move just slightly later to help him nap consistently well??

Oh gosh!
It’s happening again!!!!!

He wakes at 3:30 or 4:30 and is up babbling for 1hour!!!

I know his 2 molars are growing, but he really doesn’t seemed bothered by them. He is not cranky and is not crying. He seems fine, except for the babbling at 4am!!!

I can’t control his nap because at daycare they always have nap around 12 or 12:20 and they wake them no later than 2:30pm
But on weekends we’ve tried extending nap time and it doesn’t do anything.

Hi, they do come into a lighter sleep phase around that time of day so it could be although teeth don’t bother as such they might just be uncomfortable and rouse him. Does he go back to sleep after the hour?
