13 weeks old and waking every 1-1.5 hours!
« on: February 08, 2018, 13:29:29 pm »
Somebody please help. I'm at my wit's end, as I don't know what is going on.

My son is exactly 3 months old today. For the past week, he has been waking up every 1-2 hours overnight and also progressively earlier (5-6 am to start the day).

Prior to this, we had always woken him up at 7 am, follow a great 3 hours EASY routine, start bedtime at 7 PM and he would be asleep by 7:30 PM, waking up once or twice overnight to eat.

He is in a good mood during the day, gets decent and regular naps still, and goes down okay at night.

This can't be an early 4 month sleep regression, can it? And given it has been a week straight of this, I take it it isn't a 3 month growth spurt??

Help!!

Is he BF?
My thought is that he's quite possibly going through a growth spurt from my memory it's a big one at 3mo, I think mine went on for 10 days with both mine.

Yes, exclusively breastfed.

I would have thought a growth spurt would caused an increase in the amount of sleep! At least, that's what's happened in the past.

So this isn't unusual? There's light at the end of the tunnel?

Also, just realized he's 13 not 12 weeks old. Hahaha. My mind is mush.

I think the 3mo one is where the milk changes its consistency the most & so they feed more to stimulate more milk production. Normally the extra sleep happens when they have increased your milk supply to be able to feed more to grow.

There are 100s of reasons that babies have blips & there is light at the end of the tunnel, although not necessarily in days or weeks, some babies are more consistent than others.

Given that the waking has been going on for a week, you might consider that now there is a bit of snacking going on if he's feeding more at night & try to resettle without feeding, if you are already resettling without feeding then quite possibly you need to try & feed a bit more to get your milk supply to where a 3mo needs it rather than a 2mo. A lot of Mum's give up BF at 3mo because they feel they don't have enough supply because the baby wakes up more, but it's really that there is such poor information & education on the big range of normal in an infants life.
