2 year old won’t stay in bed !
« on: March 28, 2018, 11:34:30 am »
So we swapped cruz to a toddler bed a few months ago and never had no issues he wouldn’t get out he would just shout when he woke ..
then suddenly last night when I took him to bed he kept getting out and opening his door
It took a good half hour or so before he stayed in and went to sleep.
He normally sleeps right through. But he woke up crying then must of either dozed back or stayed awake and he got out bed twice shortly after opened his door ..
Then this morning he got out his bed and opened his door. Now I don’t mind of a morning him getting up and opening his door to shout us. But he’s never done this at night or in the night .
I tried to put him for a nap a while ago and he wouldn’t he just kept getting out his bed again.
He rarely naps now . Maybe once or twice a week . He was 2 in January.
Bedtime is usually 6.30 pm
Is there anthing around this age as to why he would suddenly not want to sleep.
Thinking back I’m sure my middle child done this around 2 Also
I have 2 other boys so evenings I love relaxing . Any tips x

Could just be a developmental leap and he's just worked out that he *can* get out of bed and open the door, so is.
And/or developmental stage where he's just finding it a bit harder to resettle on his own - I've had a few of those here and they pass.
I used to have a safety gate on my DS's door so that he couldn't wander off in the night or in the early morning.

Thanks hun
Yeh he has a safety gate on there but he can open it ! I’ve made it really tight now so I’m hoping he can’t open it now

The thing is he normally goes to bed at 6.30 my middle son at 7 and eldest at 7.30/8pm
When he won’t go to bed it makes my middle sons bed time later and therefore my eldest and they both have school/nursery

Would u just keep to the same thing keep putting him back
Yeh I think my middle child went thru something similar at around 2 hard to remember tho.
Ino they pass it’s just so hard at the time 😂

With regards to naps do you think he’s old enough to not nap
Think all mine dropped naps just after 2
He seems to cope ok

He hasn’t napped today went to bed at 6pm because of this 7.15 and he’s still awake he’s gone quiet now but not sure if he’s asleep or if he’s just lying there. X

They vary so much, Some drop to no naps at 24 months and others are still napping until 3 or 4 years old.
I am sure if you think he's fine without the nap then he is fine :)
