HELP!
« on: April 23, 2018, 21:24:52 pm »
Hello there! I'm from Brazil and I have a 7 weeks old son who doesn't like to sleep at all. I've read the book before having him, so since we came home from the hospital I tried to set a routine, but he never slept too much. First two weeks he would take a long nap in the morning or in the afternoon and it was hard to wake him up to feed him. Since then he stays awake for long periods of time, which I dont think its normal for a baby. The EASY doesnt work because he doesnt sleep after the activity or after he eats. Well, nowadays its eve harder for him to fall sleep. Sometimes he'll take a 10 minutes lap all day long and in my lap. If I put him down, he'll wake up. Plus, at night, he sleeps from 9:30 pm until around 1 p.m, he drinks a bootle, sleeps for half and hour and everynight around 3:30 p.m he'll start grumbling and he wont stop until 8 am. I don't know what to do because I cant sleep and neither can he. I dont pick up him when he does that but he keeps doing it every night. I feed him at 4:30 again (after three hours) and he'll keep grumbling when I put him down. I dont know what to do anymore. He has colics, but I'm not sure if it's because of colic. Help me please!

This is not usual for a baby. I would think there's some pain involved in that. Does he sleep if you hold him more upright?

I have thought about that...I'm taking him to another doctor. He does sleep when we try to make him cozy. I started with teas this week and he has gotten better.

I think its best if you do what you need to do to get sleep into him at this point. I hope you are able to make some headway with finding out what is hurting him and helping him feel more comfortable.

Hello brunalucon and welcome to BW :)
Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with your baby not sleeping, it is so exhausting in the first weeks.

I realise there may be a misunderstanding in language as you are from Brazil (great English by the way) but I just wanted to say that babies shouldn't be taking any sort of tea. Baby only needs milk, either breast milk or infant first formula. Anything else you give to your baby is not needed and might result in baby's tummy being too full to take a proper milk feed which means he won't get the nutrition, fats and calories he needs to grow well.
If you think your baby has reflux there are specialist baby formulas you can ask your doctor about which are thicker, there are also medications to control reflux which are prescribed by a doctor or paediatrician, but neither of these things are "tea".
